Hi all, Many of you will know my older brother Drewfus, I'm new to the HAMB but definately not new to what & who the HAMB is. Last year I purchased Feder's 49 Mercury Coupe and have since been busy giving the old girl a significant upgrade, the Merc now has a disc brake front end, power steering, triangulated 4 bar rear and a set of air bags all round to sit it on the ground plus many other changes. In due course I'll be adding some posts on the progress of the Merc, thanks to a number of you who have provided assistance or advice through my brother and I look forward to discussing further. Regards, Grant
Thanks Troy, Yeah the plan is to have the Merc on the road in Feb so would be cool to bring it for a cruise to day of the Drags. Hopefully see ya then, Grant
Yo. Will post some 'current' photo's of the mule early next week, but for now, here's what it was, Looked good from 20'....will leave it there... After getting a closer look, we decided it needed a trailer ride...sorry Feder, that chassis/suspension broken beyond repair This was the 'before' After we rebuilt the chassis... to be continued....
dash is in...this is the 'before' We painted the ugly column (2 pak) and wheel, will look to replace the wheel with a 'stocker' down the track.. Rebuilt dash and gauges so they work, repainted GLOSS black (dusty in photo, but looks slick when clean) Glass goes in tomorrow, steering rebuilt and should be putting the front clip back on as well. Hopefully the cap leads will be replaced with black ones shortly, and need to find a alternative to the ugly air cleaner.
Welcome Grant, I know it has been a bit of a battle all the way, but the end is in sight. It will be worth it that is for sure. I have followed your progress from photos/emails/phone conversations with your brother. going to be a great cruiser thats for sure. and the cad motor makes it pop.
Grant, Hello & Welcome to the HAMB from South Texas. That's a lot of progress. The Caddy engine is great. Lucky667
Thanks Guys, Yeah she's close and looking good. Will have some more updates after this weekend hopefully. Grant
Good job guys! I was going to suggest a Caddy cleaner, but no way will it fit so close to the firewall.
Welcome from another Aussie. Merc is looking good. I ain't no engineer, but those chassis 'mods' a just a little bit scary!
Same here welcome. THe doifference b/w befor eand now is amazing - you guys have done a power of work. Keep the progress pix cmoing mate. Rat
Hi Guys, Just an update, plans changed slightly over the weekend as the seats came back from the trimmer so the front clip and glass didn't make it back on as planned, instead we sorted out a bunch of other fiddly things and got the interior happening. I still have to decide on the final plans for the door trims and interior panels but that can wait, it now has carpet and seats which are looking great, hopefully i'll get pictures up soon. Otherwise we are still on track to have it on the road by the end of the month or early March. The plan will be to drive it down for Day of the Drags.
Looking good guys. Dual bolts what the third one. Did you fit a towbar to tow the HA/GR. You should start a new thread on the main board on this one.
Welcome to the HAMB Grant ! I talk with your brother Andrew alot over the years, and know alot about you Love your Custom.....you guys have done a great job with it.
bad photo(doesn't show all the story), there are 2 baby seat mounting points, plus 2 x retractible seat belt mounts Not yet, thats on the 'to do pile' for after we get all the 'must have done' things for rego sorted. when it's rego'd and after DOTD. Thanks everyone for welcoming my brother, Drewfus
Thanks all, Appreciate the comments, we'll throw some more progress pics and threads up once the things up and running.
In regards to the door panels etc... I would recommend going to a sign maker and seeing if he will sell you some of the plastic they use to make their signs with. You could get black stuff and you wouldn't have to worry about trimming it for a while. I used it in my car and it's easy to work with and you can stick to it with contact cement and should be able to staple to it, although I didn't bother. Advantage over masonite is that it won't get affected by water, so you won't get that wobbly door panel look that we all love so much! LOL
Thanks Brootal, Yeah Andrews been talking about that stuff, for rego purposes it's just getting the old door trim put back in and some boards for the back bit painted. I have ideas about how I want the trim just have to sort them out after rego Thanks for the suggestion.
