Im trying to install third member studs in a new rear end. Any tips, I don't have a shop press. My vise is too big as well. Already broke a HF C-clap. Other C-clamps won't do it either. Thanks in advance

  2. Oil lube up the stud bolts really good, and pull them into place with a hex nut. Do not use the hex nuts that you will use to install the 3rd member with, cause you don't want them ruined.

You don't think it will ruin the threads on the stud? Use impact?

I oil the splines and the hole well in addition to the threads. Use several washers of increasing size to spread the load on the housing face. Tighten a couple of turns and tap lightly with a hammer on the housing near the stud as you go. It relieves the stress and helps the stud seat. Try to use a couple of really slippery washers up near the nut with oil between them to limit the turning friction. Go slow.
