Is this car really worth 50K ????

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hotrodjim, Jan 19, 2009.

  1. Buy a rotten one, then have the metal work done properly, and see where you end up.
If that's your dream car it's worth every penny.

  2. They're all worth what someone pays for them.

  3. no but the distributor is pointing the right way

I watched a steel front clip sell on that auction site last summer for a little over $5,000.

Not to me it´s not...Not really into much anything of that era myself anyway...And wouldn´t spend that kind of money on any car, especially not a "core", period.
Usually this kind of pricetags, be it at a swap-meet, the web, cl***ifieds or some guys yard by the back road, go with the soundbyte: " I really don´t need to sell it, but if someone was to give me $**,**X for it, I might as well part with it..."
´Course it´s up to each individual what to do with their own personal belongings, and if the right buyer does show up, good for You. I just wouldn´t be bracing for any traffic jams on my street at that kind of pricing on a project vehicle, exactly. Not to be disrespectful, just saying what I think, like the original post suggested I do...

Not necessarily anything to do with this specific case, but all too often You see some vintage iron sitting around that was hauled in decades ago in nice shape which dilapitated into mere cadavres from sitting outside or inside a cold, moist enclosed storage with a tarp over it, with the owner not having the means, skills or interest to do anything with it themselves, but nobody else in the past 3 decades ever got a chance at it either because the owner´s favourite gag-reel for years has been turning down cash offers for it and going on tangents on how "collectible" and "hard to find" it is, and "It´s gonna be worth $**,**x restored so I´m asking yy,**x" despite of all the most evident decomposition already occurred and unfortunately, at the rate this has been going on, still tons more to be predicted. At the worst-case scenario, these "enterprises" end up with the owner taking the "midnight express to Slab City" eventually and the uninformed heirs doing away with the piles in the quickest and least complicated manner...

  8. NO! Well, maybe. I don't know, YES.
    It's well worth the 50K if you don't mind spending $150,000 to own a $75,000 car:rolleyes:

If it was mine, I'd be asking $60k! And calling you all a bunch of CHUMPS, lol.

Someone will pay that much for it. And you know what that means? It means those old Willys coupes are worth a ****load of money.

Here is one you can get cheaper. If you are going to slice and dice it to make a g***er I think you are better off not paying the premium for such a nice original car like the one that started this thread. It's not that far from me, too bad I'm a little low on expendable income.

Almost any price on any car will find a buyer eventually. It all depends on how patient you are. If the car can sit for 10 years, you'll find a buyer eventually. I have seen people spend stupid money on vehicles that weren't worth a quarter of what they paid for it.

Honestly, I really know nothing about Willy's, or their value. I just know that I like 'em. Is it worth 50K? Not to me...but I can guarantee that there is someone out there that thinks 50 is a hell of a bargain. If you are patient enough, you can find a ***** who will pay $50,000 for a 1985 Yugo.
