OK hear it is. I need to know if a model a rear end would be strong enough to run at the salt flats with a hoped up banger in it . the only worry is the pinion shaft with the key way.
This is important to and don't want guess i need real experience with these rear ends.I don't want to be changing parts like that at the salt.

The pinion shaft doesnt have a keyway
    Those axles are not strong!
One of the weaknesses is the tapered axle shafts.
    Keep the axle nuts tight

Be sure the rear axle ***embly is rebuilt CORRECTLY

As in any kind of racing, you want to make sure you aren't laying on your back fixing broken parts while the other people are out racing.
Bite the bullet and put in something that is reliable and won't break so easily.

    IMHO

yes model A's do have a key way in the pinion. Thar just like the axle shafts. your thinking of later models with the splines and remember its not a huge horse power motor. i need some one how has ran one or at least tried

i think i forgot to mention that i'm going to run a bog Warner over drive torque tube and it fits model a rear end now. I'm trying something new not the norm. iv got quick changes and strong rear ends but the motor maybe has 100 hp

Yes, the rearend is strong enough! You must run safety hubs- Speedy Bill has them. Forget the od! The 25% (or what ever) step is to much to pull on the salt. Change gears or run bigger tires. Remember the tires must be speed rated. If you are going to run scta/bni you must meet all requirements; think about the USFRA 130 club.
