Well here are a couple of pics of my new reshaped trim courtesy of the US Post Office.

Please use 'FED-X' in the future folks.

Anybody else have any great US PO stories or pics?

Roger, still looking for that 1946 Ford passenger rear fender trim:mad:.

I would say that a big part of the blame should fall on the sender. That package is nowhere near protective enough for any method of shipping. If your're going to send trim like that it should be in a tube

Yeah, I get pissed and blame the post office too when someone does a crappy job of protecting something that's delicate and then it gets damaged.

I use, and receive stuff shipped from USPS all the time. I've had far fewer screw-ups by USPS than UPS, FedEx and DHL. And it's almost always cheaper than other carriers.

The guy that sent those to you should have sandwiched them between a couple thin pieces of masonite or 1/4-inch plywood before wrapping them in cardboard.

I'd be livid with the guy who packaged them, not the USPS.

    -Brad
Edit: I wasn't thinking; PVC pipe would have been the best way to send that.
I bought some really rare aluminum door window trim for a '60-'63 Suburban, and the guy who shipped it sandwiched it between masonite, with a buffer of old jute backing to keep them from getting damaged.

Let me get this right, somebody put delicate trim in an unsupported long skinny box and it got fucked up....sure couldn't see that one coming.

If the items you buy are really that important, as a buyer you need to be on the seller's ass about packing it right, including offering to pay extra for a proper container.

then you don't have threads like these

That does suck, but FedEx is no better. It;s all just cardboard to them. I used to work at a beer dist. It was the same thing, it's just a cardboard box that needs to be moved, until one breaks open and you remember whats inside.

i PROMISE ups jacks with packages, as does fedex. We have had to return several $50,000 servers and routers because the frames get bent, and they have super extra duty styrofoam cased boxes to protect them.

Lack of protection is not the guy getting 6.50 an hours fault

That sucks. I just saw a turbo kit show up at a motorcycle shop today with two fist size holes in the box.

I've shipped out a lot of parts and when you think the packing job might suck, it's best to do it again.

Nothing is worse than ordering critical parts and receiving a box full of damaged goods.

Anytime I shipped anything that could be bent, I would always pack it in such a manner to prevent it from doing so, by taping it to a wood strip or adding enough stiff cardboard to prevent bending. However, if a postal worker drives over it with a fork lift, there is little hope. Insured shipping is a must.

Are you sure you want to post your address????

I've worked at UPS(United Parcel Smashers)
and DHL(Don't Hire Losers),and can tell you some pretty crazy "package handling" stories...

  14. It looks to me like a very poor job of packing. I have shipped parts by just about all the shippers out there and if I did not pack the materials properly I got my ass chewed by the buyer if the parts got to him damaged. Pack your parts properly and they won't get damaged. If you don't know how to pack them, take them to a shipping service and they will do it for you and it will be done right and even when you take them there, insure them.

Well the guy will make it good on the $ I spent but that just means those parts are getting more scarce all the time.

I think next time he'll package it up better.
    Oh well.

why dont you take it there yourself because I am sure for $8 you could do it cheeper. this is the state of our country, lets put the blame where it dosent belong. It seems like a great job when it 75 degrees and sunny. I do not envy my postman to be walking around in this shit in -10 degrees for the last month..... Put the credit where credit is due.

    I hate them all !
All they do is throw the stuff around and they really don't care ! I have seen them do that many time . I said something to a guy once and the reply was " IT'S"INSURED!".
For what they are paid they should handle like they are eggs !
Now the Post Office is complaining they are in the red again and want to only work 5 days !
    WTF ! You have to work 5 , 6 & 7 days a week !!!
The delivery people and shippers get paid way to much for what , BROKEN PARTS & LETTERS THAT LOOK LIKE A MONKEY WITH ONE HAND SORTED THEM ! NO PRIDE in their job anymore ! Who cares , their Union contract protects them ! Must be nice !

  21. And now they want to cut out Saturday delivery and they blame people e-mailing. It's not all becuase of e-mails. It's their service that has gone down hill. They just don't seem to care or that's the way they are in my area.

A coworker just received some electronics via UPS....but with a huge hole in the box.....and a stray tractor part, still in its wrapper, was inside his box too. It was a big heavy wrist pin. Some farmer is pissed today...

If the sender had the IQ high enough to print your address he/she could have cut a piece of plywood for a protective backer. That or used a FREE three sided shipping tube if the trim would fit in it.

  24. Shipping is kind of like painting,90 % preparation. No excuse for crappy packaging.

  25. I always use USPS, it cost less money than all the others. Package it sound and you'll have no more problems than at any other shipping company. Sorry to hear that happen just the same.

that sucks and every thing but shit looks fixable to me. if the trim is as rare as you say i woundnt think twice about fixing it. it doesnt look stainless , which is alot harder to fix , so it shouldnt be that big of a deal at all.

Go by your local carpet store and pick up some carpet roll tubes. They are light and have worked well for me.

Ok. I am a mail man. I have delivered damaged packages that came into my care that way. I do take pride in my job and don't throw around peoples stuff as some of you believe we do. Mail carries on the average walk about 8 to 12 miles a day and as you might believe we aren't all fuck offs. I have workes through two of the toughest winters in our state and still show up everyday. I don't complain about your jobs here on a hot rod board, just because mine is more public then yours doesn't give you the right. Walk a mile in a carriers shoes and then tell me how easy we have it. Oh and the 5 day work week is just so we don't have to take money from congress or the tax payer, which we haven't since 1983. Look around everyone in this country is cutting back, I guess you may have to wait until monday to get your new issue of Inches.... Quit pointing the finger at the messenger. Hope you guys who bitch about the P.O. enjoy sending a letter through Fed-ex for about $13... 42 cents doesn't sound so bad now hey?

I shipped over 2500 packages through the post office all over the world when I was selling car parts on ebay.

the only one ever to arrive broken was similar to that, long trim in a substandard box. my fault entirely and I refunded the buyer in full.

lost and damaged packages are few and far between if you pack well and label your stuff right. don't blame the carrier, this stuff goes through machines and conveyer belts and who knows what else between your house and its destination... people need to pack accordingly.
