Its in a 1950 3/4 ton pick up for cheap. What kind of motor is it and what kind of value am I looking at depending on what kind of motor it is?

Does anybody even have a little bit of info for me?

  3. Ummm...I'd guess it's a Ford flathead V8. Circa 1950. (based on the info you've provided)
As for value-snoop around over in the cl***ified section.

It could either be a V8 flathead or an inline-6 flathead. If it is the V8 then it is an 8BA Flathead (239 CID) which if it runs and the block isnt cracked for the motor alone minus the transmissin is worth about $700 or so. If dont know to much about the inline-6 other then it has a 226 CID. No clue on what it would be worth. Hope this helps you some. Anyone else correct me on the price of an 8BA if i am wrong.

Well, unless it's been replaced with an earlier engine, it'll most likely be an 8RT or 8BA. Usually marked as such on the heads. 239 ci, 105 hp, etc. Does it run? If they don't run or turn over and I can't inspect the internals I don't pay more than $50 for a flathead. I've bought 5 of them so far and only one of them was't cracked up inside. I paid considerably more for the good one though as the seller let me pull the heads, intake and oil pan to inspect it before I bought it.

Well then it would be the 8BA Flathead V8. I paid 300 for mine and it was siezed up, but it everything from the generator to the bellhousing and clutch was still bolted up to it.

A guy had these 2 last fall at a swap meet I went to. I think they were 8RTs but honestly don't recollect, pretty sure they were truck. He also had a '52 ford p/up cab and some other items - think he was asking $800 for all. Didn't say whether the engines turned & I didn't check.

Yes it looks just like them but it looks like it has been sitting in a field or in the wood for a long time with out a hood and an open carb. Well its at pull-a-part and the price of a V8 from them is 131.20. I just dont know if it would be worth it or if it would be a drop in the bucket.
