Like many 60 year old gl***, mine is separating inside the pieces and fogging up. Should I have plexi put in there, have gl*** made for it, or try and find the impossible good used gl***? It ain't too bad to use at the moment since it is just the bottom 2 inches, but it'll get there. I've never had to screw with gl*** before so I don't know my options.
I understand that Axle is pretty good as far as gl*** goes. You may want to PM him. He may at the very least point you in the right dierction. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/private.php?do=newpm&u=29
1 piece olds will fit if its from a sedanette. 53-54 Chevy or Pontiac will also fit after the bottom corners are cut to the same radius as the 1949-1952
^^Thank ya ^^ See that's why I'm thinking used. It isn't specifically the $340 I mind, it's that it is $340 for one window and I have 5 more to go. I'm not ruling it out though to go new, I just need to find the parts, put the prices together and figure it out. This won't be like "tomorrow" since the gl*** in it still works for now. I have a few other things that I need to throw the change towards on the car priority wise. Like tomorrow when I am laying under it removing the 6 engine mounts that started as 3. Hanging throttles wide open gets old after about the 8th time it happens. Gotta get this all lined up though and figure it out for when it is time to pull the gl*** out.
I picked up a used 1953 Pontiac front gl*** for $50 bucks at a salvage yard. Its not too bad its not show quality but **** it I drive it and it looks like you drive yours to..
If you have a gl*** shop in your area go and talk to them and see if they cut flat gl***. Being that it's flat gl*** it shouldn't be a big deal. You have the old pieces for a pattern which makes it even easier.
Got a gl*** shop nearby, but I'll have to check if they cut and mold or just sell and install. Yeah perfection ain't my thing. Just trying to cut down on the overall ****tiness.
Not by any means. fogging around the bottom and middle isn't too bad just yet (old pic, first day I got it)
i didnt mean it like that.i just ment if your not going for perfect then id buy used to haha only reason i did on mine was i found it and i figured that it would be a template if it ever got broke save some money for the insurace company in the long run
Oh **** that's rounded well you can buy new for $$$ or cruise swapmeets and eBay for used the end those are your options. For flat gl*** cut it yourself. Shop right and it'll cost under $100 for door/side gl***. I got ripped off by my gl*** guy for like $500 and never got the work done but at least learned to cut my own stuff I made him show me just go slow and maybe have axle show you how? I just take the leftovers from big sheets at a huge gl*** joint it was 38 for enough to do a door, quarter, and vent , at least on my chopped shoe. Good luck
Yeah it's round in every way, even from the front view. It reminds me of the way the gl*** wraps around in the back of a 5 window ford.
Well I'd have to find some talent in the gl*** industry around here, but it could be done. My grandfather owned a NEON business for 60 years and I grew up around everybody blowing gl*** and molding it into all kinds of shapes. I just couldn't get safety gl*** and if I was ever in a wreck it would be my ***. I think I'll look for some used gl***......
find the interchnage with the chevy ya might get luckey and it could be with a 2 door tooo i cant remember . but i kno the fast back gl*** is a few inches shorter then the coupes
Right a 1949-1952 Olds Pontiac or Chevy Sedanette or Fastback will all interchange. A 1953-1954 Olds or Pontiac Coupe, Sedan will also work its it cut to fit. Coupe is 2.5 inches differnt I think. So if you have a coupe you can put a one piece in it pretty easy by buying a replacement Olds window or if you can find a 53-54 Pontiac or Olds its can be cut to fit. the bottom corners are more rounded on the 1949-1952s
hmmm. I foresee myself buying the gl*** twice as the first time I try to get it, it probably won't fit with my luck!
I think with I have $180 in my front gl***. It cost more for my rear quater gl*** to get cut and glued in than the front did all together.
this might sound corny, but I think I read on here or on chevytalk that an aussie dude needed gl*** for his front windshield on his '49 chevy and he found that a '70s curved windshield beetle gl*** could be cut to fit... cost of two of those cut and fitted was cheaper than one O.G. windshield...might be something to think about.
