Going to replacing the head gaskets on my motor and seal up some of the head studs so they quit leaking water. My question is which ones are better for a street motor? Copper sandwitched type or graph***e?
You can ask 10 people & you will get 10 different answers.I prefer the double copper, but then there is the guy who say's never do that?.I have for over 40 yrs & never had a problem.I also use the avation permatex on the gasket & head bolt threads.Sometimes they weep for a while, but usually stop over a short time.Just remember to re-torque many times till they stop moving. Now lets here from others?
Been looking around and it looks like graph***e is the way to go. Would you guys use copper sealer or any type of sealer on the gasket, or just install them dry?
Dry should be fine. The modern composite gaskets are far and away superior to the old copper sandwich gaskets. THe solid copper are really for racing.
Best Gaskets makes a graphi***e head gasket for a the flathead. They recommend you install them dry but do say you can use a sealant of your choice.
