hello, my names mike. i'm a lurker, but last night i finally purchased a "rod" so i figure i can post here now. i'm 21, from central pennsylvania. this will be my 1st project so we'll see how it goes. i come from the land of vw's. the h20 models that is. and i've read enough to understand anything other than rod talk is forbidden. so i'll be a good boy, and never put v next to w again. anyways i now have a 52 dodge pickup. i dont have pics of the actually truck yet, but i'll post up one of what it looks like. i have picture in my mind of what i want to do with it.. so i'm ready to make it happen. and if anyone knows of some good dodge websites, i'd appreciate it. i seem to be having trouble finding them in the land of ford and chevy. thanks
Welcome to the Hamb If you have pictures of your VW's I think you should email them to me squishybug@earthlink.net Kris
Welcome, I'm originally from right outside of Harrisburg (Elizabethtown area). There are a few other central PA guys on here, like those lame ass So-What guys. Good luck with your truck! -Duck
Hi Mike and Welcome! Just get out your sawall, and start cut'n Ya know, a Slant-6 4-speed would be cool.
Welcome, I love those trucks. If you are looking for a V8 I have a 260 with an automatic. I is a poly motor but could be turned into a HEMI with the right parts. Post often and keep us updated on your plans and progress.
hey guys, thanks for the replies. cherryblossom, i actually dont even have pics of my vw. i'm not much of a camera person. and besides, its just a 98 golf with a bumper, exhaust, short shift, etc... nothing to special. and yea j man.. i wanna put a v8 in the truck. so when i get ready to pick something up i'll keep ya in mind..if you still have that stuff. later on.
hey im from harisburg also. i have a 52 chevy pick up and a mmmm 64 bug and a 90 show truck here are some pix of my show truck www.exclusivestyles.com i go by the name gump i am also looking at buying a 49 4 door chevy fast back. hope to meet up with you some time. email addy is exclusivestyles@pa.net
A 383 is always a good choice for a engine. If you go poly, look into the late poly's like a 318. It shares a lot of parts with the LA(small block) family of engines. Although Hemi heads will not interchange like on some of the early engines.
welcome, you need to get that truck way down, and chopped of coarse,I don't recall seeing one done up nice so heres your chance.good luck.
[ QUOTE ] Welcome aboard Mike. Bet you didn't have this in your mind: [/ QUOTE ] phew....ouch,I hope at least it dont have the damn 3.0L in it from the donor car? Btw Welcome aboard
[ QUOTE ] hi,I know where you can get another dodge real close to ya.For a good price too. [/ QUOTE ]Yep thats right I still have that thing. Good luck with your new project just keep all mopar please.
Welcome. I love the old Dodge trucks like yours. I learned to drive in one. Why not update with a Chrysler Flathead 6 (or Desoto). They were 2" longer to allow for a much tougher crankshaft and rod bearings. They are nearly indestructible. Lots of old speed equipment for them. Change the gears in the rear to some hiway numbers like 3:25 or 3:00 and cruise.
Hey, "nother Mopar?? Are you planning on keeping it all Mopar? I have some experance with these old Dodge pick ups Got one low, and one way high. Can answer many questions you may have, just ask away. Gene
The blue one is a 54 Dodge 1/2t pickup. it has been clipped with the cross torsion bar cross member from an 85ish 5th Ave. The cross member is bolted to a new 2"x 4" tube front sub frame welded to the original 54 frame at the fire wall. The 2"x 4" tubing is set 2" deep into the original frame after the top of the frame was trimmed back. Everything was then box plated at the joint. If I were doing it again I probably would make the top of the tubing flush with the top of the frame. The bottom of the running boards are 6" off the ground, the bottom of the front bumper is all scrapped up from entering my driveway, and going over dips. BTW, everything is well above the scrub line. The rear leaf springs are from a Mustang II with an extra leaf added to each side. The truck runs a high milage (150+ K) 360 Mopar /w 2bbl carb, a 727 auto, an open 3:23 geared 8 3/4. We put on around 10-12,000 miles a year, it is a nice driver, gets around 14-16 mpg. It took two years to get it road worthy, and has been a work in progress for the last 3 years we've bee driving it. I installed a seat from a 5th Ave in it this year, but don't like it and will probably change it out over the winter. It has the tilt column from the 5th in it as well. Everything has been done by me, including the fine paint job using Farm and Fleet custom mixed industrial enamal, runs and all. Bet you weren't expecting a book were you? Gene
Ya, I know what you mean. As you can see, all my stuff sits outside. The garage is for "business." Gene
