    Hi All,

I have a 1966 Dodge motorhome (Islander) with a 318 poly hemi V8, and torqueflight. I want to remove the engine; Does anyone know if this comes out the front or what is the best way to get it out? Thanks!

  2. Probably goes out the front. I've seen Dodge vans get the engine taken out the p***enger door.
If you are trying to save the motorhome, then don't take a sawzall to the front of it. If you don't care about it, hack away.

Yepper, it's a poly hemi that I want to put in a rod, welding the frame now; don't give a rat's *** about the motorhome itself!

Dude, no 318's were hemis. If you are thinking you can make that a hemi, you might want to check that before you go through all the effort. 318's aren't that hard or expensive to come by. Might be easier to get one without a motorhome attached to it.

stude trucks, "Dude": I've been playing with street rods since 1966; Chrysler made a factory 318 poly hemi. Buy a book & look it up, this is not the 318 small block that you may be thinking of. I understand the confusion though.

Well, cool, but check your facts again. First off, a poly isn't even a hemi. Is not a hemi until the hemi heads go on and they never made a 318 hemi. Now please go check that fact. Or just do what you want to do, and then find out the hard way later.

You see a 318 hemi on this list? http://www.hothemiheads.com/hemi_info/hemi_engine_id.html

Maybe you know more about hemis than these guys? Now maybe it might be possible to fit some hemi heads on a 318 block, I have no idea, but why in the hell would you want to try to do that? Just go get a 331 hemi if you want one that bad. they are pretty easy to get and relatively cheap.

No 318 Hemis were ever made, period. Only the A-block Poly engines and the LA-block Wedge-design engines. No Hemis. Ever.

The 318 poly hemi is a semi-hemispherical combustion chamber; that is why they are called a poly hemi versus a 318 small block. So then, if I'm full of ****, then y'all might want to tell that to these other guys on H.A.M.B., who are discussing the 318 hemi on another board here, Early Dodge Poly/Hemi Questions, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=318415.

I think you mean a 318 polyspherical. Which would be correct.. Saying it's a poly hemi doesn't make sense. Its either one or the other and to my understanding, they didn't make a hemi 318

  26. This is the first time I have ever heard a poly called a hemi. It's either a hemi or it's not, period. Semi hemi isn't a hemi. If the inside of the head is not half a sphere, it is not a hemi. Call it what you choose, but don't expect the rest of the world to agree with you. The thread that you linked says "poly/hemi". The "slash" indicates hemi and/or poly. Nowhere in the thread does anyone say a poly is a hemi, nor do they say that there was ever a 318 hemi. Only you know if you are FOS, but I will ***ume you are misinformed and, perhaps, lack some reading comprehension.

Thats funny right there..no matter who you are..

  28. Well, before you destroy the motorhome, be aware there's a decent vintage camper market out there, a lot of that stuff is damned near impossible to find, so it might be worth the trouble to take it apart the right way and ebay the extra pieces.
