Hello everyone... Thought I would put my Project on here....A roadster pick-up (daily driver) so here goes.... A couple months ago I was digging through my piles of **** looking for a part and thought to myself...."Ive got enough parts here to build something cool.... So I called Peter (Ductile Iron) at the Old Ford Store and put myself in line for a 32 ch***is... It was delivered on the 9th of January.... Thanks Pete!!!! It was delivered with a challenge though..... finish and drive it to the L.A. Roadster show... And being a dumb*** I accepted the challenge...So I have till the 19th of June..... I figured out that the 28 Chevy cowl was to narrow for the 32 ch***is..Once again Pete to the rescue.... With a 1928 Oakland cowl and doors.... Ok enough with the talk heres some pics..... .... My ch***is on the jig at Ductile Iron's shop .... 1928 Oakland cowl... lots of cracks to weld up .... 1928 Es*** Super Six Grillshell .... 29-29 windshield stantions... with a 31 deluxe frame .... 1953 Anglia, Banjo steering wheel and shaft .... *****in Oakland dash
When the ch***is arrived I went into mock-up mode .... .... The wheels are 14x6 torque thrusts and 15x7 aluminum slots turned around backwards....
I got the ch***is into the shop and ***embled the front suspension... CE I-beam, Ce spring, split model A bones, Speedway spindles and disc brakes. Checked for fit and how they looked.... The bones are to short so they will get lengthened soon. I set up the firewall and mounted it.... about in inch further back than the 32's would've been .... .... Built some motor mounts... and immediatly had to mod the drivers side... (I had only tacked it in, so not to big of a deal) the steering box hit the mount just slightly.... so I pulled off the forward side of the mount and tacked in the vega box mount, then made a new front side for the motor mount .... .... ....
Next I built the trans crossmember.... .... .... Ive decided to build the rear suspension as a 4 bar with the upper bar being a posies 1/4 eliptic spring .... .... I made a template and gave it to my friend with a CNC plasma... he returned 4, 1/4 plates matching my templates .... .... ....
Started thinkin about the body mounts and heres what I came up with.... I took some 1x2 thinwall tubing.... made some pie cuts to make it follow the rails .... then I lined up my bolt holes.... bored 1 3/4 holes.... made some cups so the bolts would be below the floor level.... and welded it up... .... .... .... ....
I will post more soon.....Gonna hit it pretty hard this weekend.... Hope to have some good updates..... till then heres some misc. pics .... .... .... ....
I'm loving that Es*** grille...it kinda looks like an old Rodzy,Nylint or All American Hot Rod metal toy roadster.
this is going to be a fun build to watch. nice grill choice... stock winterfront on them things are a favorite of mine.
I love the Es*** grill too.... I Picked it up for $40 bucks... just been waiting to build a car for it...
thats going to be a cool looking rpu. and good luck with the challenge! looks like your off to a good start!
Ok update time..... ... I got the vega steering box mount in.... but had to do a small mod to the motormount ... ... ...
I got the firewall placement nailed down.... I drilled and tapped the frame and bolted it down.... ... ...
I love that grille too. Wish I could find one for $40! Neat build. Looks like you have a couple happy helpers too.
April?!?!?! I like your thinking, Jerry.... but Im not moving the schedule up..... LOL I would love to drive it to the roundup though... Damn it Jerry... your breakin my concentration....
Gigantor.... What are the chances of a guy in HUDSON, Maine owning an ES***.... LOL.. The Anglia is pretty loud and my son has named the truck.... "The Quiet Truck".... My Daughter cant wait to get dropped off at school in it!!
I prepped the doors for installation ....Removed the wood, oiled the hinges, pounded a bullit hole closed, and cleaned the broken hinges for welding..... ... ... ... ... ... ...
I welded the cowl and firewall back together and bolted it back on... then I threw my crossram (for the Anglia) on the mockup motor.... ... ... I taotally got my *** kicked by the pedal ***y... took me way to long to get it in.... But I got it in...I think... not gonna weld it solid yet... ... ... Im using a mustang radiator that I had from an old project... I had the inlet and outlet moved... Another thing outta the way... ... ...
The pedal ***y was an eye opener.... I gotta keep on top of this thing if Im gonna finish it by June.... it also made me realize that the cab is to short.... Im gonna lengthen the cab 6 inches move the rear axle back 3 inches and chop the bed 3 inches... Im planning on this thing being a real world "daily driver" so I want to keep the cab comfortable and the bed as long as possible.... forgot to tell ya... While I had the motor out of the frame, I welded up some stuff... ... ... ...
Come on you got too have it done for roadster show since I do not want to drive again by myself. You and El bombaro should be done at the same time. Keep the updates coming. I can't believe how big your kids are now.
