Do any of you painters out there get your materials (paint, sand paper, tape, ect) online for a good price? If so where at? I am about to do a car and have been out of it so long I'll have to start from scratch building my inventory back up. Just like everywhere things are tight and would like to save a few bucks. Thanks

  2. I searched and searched the internet but could'nt find much in the line of paint. I was looking for laqcuer (spelling?) ended up paying $200.00 for one gal of black. Way too much, I thought. good luck

  3. There are a ton of places.
    TCP global:

I think what they sell is either Nason (Dupont's economy line) or Omni (Ditzler's economy line)- not sure, though.

You can also get Kirker products online. Their stuff is a little older technology, but more than good enough for guys like you & me:

If you do a search, you can get more opinions- there are alot of threads on the subject I believe.

Good pricing on materials other than paint. Forums are excellent for help. Stay out of the politics forum...got me banned :)

I still recommend the site because Len has about the best on line pricing and if you can get by his liberal politics, provides a quality site and service.

I have used TCP global but the shipping to WI is friggin high on paint. They sell thier own brand of flats but they also sell HOK and AutoAir, I think maybe some others too. When you figure in the shipping I was not saving that much compared to a jobber place about 20 miles from me. Besides I can call them up and if they don't have what I need they will have it there in a day or two. Mail order was taking a week and a half!

There is no such thing as cheap quality paint. Do keep in mind that if the car spends much of its' time in the garage, you can get by with a good quailty acrylic enamel with hardener.

I don't know if it's acceptable to mention another bulletin board, but if you go over to hotrodders.com and do a search, the gentleman that owns Southern Polyurethanes posts there.

His basecoats and clearcoats are very highly regarded, as is his epoxy primer. Last time I looked, his prices were very reasonable, and you can call the guy up for tech support. (BarryK is his name on the board, I think).

Downside is there is a limited color pallette available. Could also use his clears and primers with another basecoat, like HOK.

His black is supposed to be the best black out there.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried his products yet. Just read other's opinions.

Direct access to his site is www.southernpolyurethanes.com

JD and 58Fridge got the 3 places I frequent. Usually I end up ordering from both for one job, some stuff is cheaper with one while other stuff is cheaper with the other. Smartshoppers has superfast UPS shipping to me in NJ, while TCP usually takes 5-6 days UPS. Both great places with excellent customer sercvice, you have to phone in your smartshoppers order though which is a little annoying.
