Just went to book a room on line. I've stayed at the Nugget the last two years, but missed out on rooms this year. As I went to book on line, they just opened up reservations this morning, at the Peppermill, Rainbow and Montego Bay, you have to pay a 3 day stay non-refundable deposit. Has it always been this way or is this a new policy? I never had to at the Nugget. To have to pay a $600+ non-refundable deposit seems a little to risky to me. It could rain that week and any number of things could happen between now and August. I also tried to get rooms at Days Inn and they wanted 7 nights paid in advance, with that being non-refundable.

  2. Just ruff it! I have my res. at the Wendover KOA only $40 non-refundable.

Yea it is a new policy and it is a joke. $800 bux for 4 nights at the Montego Bay. I lucked out and got into the Econo Lodge but still no bargin. I booked early and avoied their new 6 NIGHT min stay. We have camped in the past at the bend and it was great. I have a feeling I will be camping from now on if the hotels keep trying to push the speedweek people out.

welcome to BENDOVER UTAH/NEVADA. All this 3/6 night bs minimum stay and triple the normal room rate is new for this year. Sounds like the "ol west" is back to highway robbery.

  5. If you don't mind the drive look at staying in Wells. It's about a 40 minute drive but last year I paid $50/night during speedweek. Plus as rooms open up later in the week you can always scoop one of them up and cancel out in Wells. No way in hell I would pay those rates.

  6. What a joke ! So are all the rooms doing this triple the price deal??????? I spaced out today was the day to get reservations,i have been so busy getting ready to go to the autorama I missed out. F%$K!!!! I ***ume every room is sold out by this time.

Yea that seems to be the case, well the Casino/Hotels are anyway. The other 51 weeks of the year the rooms are $39-$59. The Speedweek price ****s, but I would pay it because this is what I schedule my vacation around. It's the 3 nights up front non-refundable deposit that I want no part of.

And that's one of the reasons we have an RV. Also,Casinos have FREE parking! As long as you don't have too many in it,you can go 4-5 days w/o dumping your tanks.

It's a total joke---I've tried all morning to even get on the Peppermill/Rainbow/Montego Bay site and it keeps saying the server is too busy. Then, when I finally got on, it says the rooms are not available. I say forget it...
CAMPING RULES anyway! (except a shower is kinda nice)

    Does the KOA have showers?

I just checked and there are still rooms available if you can afford it.

Just make sure you do not use the boxes at the top of the page. You need to go to the middle of the page and click on the LSR car and accept the terms first.

All the ones I've been to have showers. Buy some cheap flip-flops!
Pull up KOA online and find the closest one, they'll likely have photos of the place, how many "dry",partial and full hook up sites.

I just booked a room a few minutes ago at the Rainbow. Rates **** but you buy one room with two queen beds and you have a couple other buddies sleep on the floor and chip in. It's all good. Better than sleeping in the dirt.

Showers are available at the truck stop/restaurant at the exit to the flats by the bend.

Check the Motel 6 in Wells. I just booked 5 nights for $243.00 on line. I have stayed there before and it is one of the nicer Motel 6's.

I guess I'm not going, as I refuse to be held hostage to unfair business practices. The question in my mind is whether this is actually legal in the State of Nevada - don't they have consumer laws regulating and ensuring fair business practices?

Tried - no rooms, at reasonable rates available. The Red Garter is up for sale, no reservations. But, if sale happens they might have rooms. Check back end of March.

Holy ****...I want to make a pilgrimage to the salt in the next couple years with my oldest boy, if everything is still ok moneywise by then. My goal is to do it before he turns 16, he just turned 13 Sunday. Hopefully, we can get something together and drive there from MS Gulf Coast, make for some killer stories to tell. Like some of you, I don't plan on staying in any motels, and will camp out when we do go. Hoping for 2010...

I took Liberty Garage's advice and checked in with Motel 6 in Wells. I got my confirmed reservations plus two friends, three rooms for four nights. What we would have paid for one night at the hotel casinos in Wendover, we are getting four nights in Wells. Drive a little save a lot. Thanks Liberty Garage for the heads up.

  23. Yep the Motel 6 in Wells is where I stayed last year. The drive isn't bad at all (gives you time to wake up) and there are a couple places close by to eat. The hotel is pretty nice for a cheap place to crash.

I did the Wells Motel 6 last year for the first part of the week, but got a room in Wendover 3 days into the week. It's not a bad alternative, given the $$$ savings.
It was interesting to see how many guys trailored their rods to the Wells motel, but then unloaded them and drove them to the Salt Flats and Wendover. Less wear and tear on the rod that way.
