    Hi guys,

Long time reader first time poster here, love all your work & figure its time to show you what i have & what im doing...

I have an Australian 1964 EH Holden (GM)

Its going to get pretty modified in every way...

Originally it came out with a 179ci 6 & 3 speed manual, its a base model called a standard, after the standard came the special & then the premier, it came out with bench seats front & rear unlike the premier which had buckets & a center console & heater, the special & premier came out with side chrome strips unlike the standard, all models came out of the factory with drums all round.

What i have planned for mine is an injected 304ci v8 stroked to a 355ci with a t700 behind it, im using a borg warner diff with disc brakes front & rear from a late model holden that also ran the same v8 engine, although its been changed to a ford stud pattern. The front crossmember has been modified & strengthened to suit the 304 & now also mounts a rack & pinion dumping the original steering box. Im planning on dumping the original leaf spring rear for a triangular 4 link to run airbags & a better ride in general & on the track, im sure theres so much more but for now i'll show you where im at & how it should look

This is what i hope it will look like one day, its a photoshop generated image.

Also i was told today by an Australian distributor that Boyd's wheels are no longer being made & if i wanted espada's i would have to buy 2nd hand or off the shelf which i cant see happening with the offsets im looking for....

CAN ANYONE CONFIRM OR DENY THIS?

I'm sure it's going to be a nice car, but Boyds and a "Bunch of Bananas Motor" doesn't a traditional car make. Stick with the straight six, a set of triples and some steelies and you'll be in the right place. I live for building cars, but man youv'e got some work to do on that EH, not mention a ton of money. I do dig your shed though.

    Hi x38,

I dont think anyone can pinpoint a HAMB car, i guess its what your interpretation is, maybe the way i want my eh is not a HAMB car but i dont think i ever said it was, if you interpreted that i was suggesting that im sorry i wasnt, i am proud of the history i have in my shed & would like to show people that may also be interested on the HAMB website, as you may know as a car builder its only the final touches that determine what a car ends up like & if i said to you that it was going to be mat black with steel wheels you would be loving this thread & asking for more, but because i want boyd's & a flash paint job you slam my first post. I hope your not always this grumpy :)

Anyway, for all of those that would like to look please do so, I would love your feedback on ideas & any help that you can give would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers
    Zoran

Mate, you seem like a nice bloke, so here is a tip.... do a search on Coddington wheels and see how they are received and take it from there. You can still have a VERY shiney car, doesnt have to be flat,or ****ty, but so far the only critera you meet is the age of the car. Good luck

    hey Zoran,

    Welcome from not far away..
see the problem is if you said matt black and red wheels we would slam you as well!!

The idea here is to build cars in a style sympathetic to the era the car is from, or at least to an earlier time when it would have been modified .

So, an EH holden that was Hamb material would have a hotted up red motor, shiny paint and probably chrome steelies or early slot mags, 60s accesory guages, maybe a speco floorshift, and a neat Vinyl interior, no highback buckets or ugly steering wheels..just imagine what someone with a few year old EH (in say,1967) would have done to hot his ride up, and use THOSE parts and stay in that era and we would LOVE your car.

Truth is we are a bunch of narrow minded pedants.
I dont even like us sometimes. :)

    Hey Jamin,

    thanks for looking,

from what ive been told today, im not even sure that the boyds i want will be available......... but even still i would like some nice billets, even though the 304 has been done to death, its less common then the 6 with triples & these days cost is very simular so in my opinion why wouldnt you go for the extra power...... tradition would have been great for this car & i did consider it but it was too far gone from there so there was no use going back when i had the same opportunity to move forward, this is why i have chosen the path i have for this vehicle.......

also cheers for the shed a fair bit has been put into it so far & its still not finished so i will keep you posted with it in this thread

getting back to the story, the front cowel was very rusty on the car so i uns***ched the old one & bought a front cut (after the subframe) which had no rust in it, ive used that for the replacement cowel & also for the replacement lower firewall / upperfloor, here are some pics

  12. Zok,

Hopefully this thread give you the vision I have been trying to give you... lol.
Set of triple webbers or SU's, lumpy cam and a bathurst head would make a hell of alot of tyre smoke
let me know when the cut and weld on the floors is gonna start and I'll be there in my overalls

Welcome from North Texas. I have always been so jealous of some the cars you have over there! An aquaintence of mine is from Australia and the pics he shows me always get me going. Good luck with the project.

Like the banner says; "Spreading the gospel of traditional Hot Rods and Customs...". I dig old Holdens but this style of build will not be received well here. That said the HAMB is a great place to "hang-out" and learn, who knows maybe after a while you'll come around.:)

    Hi guys,

i'll make all the aussies a deal, i'll keep posting all the floor work, rust work, fab work that im doing to this car which will stay in the HAMB tradition, when i start on the work that you guys dont like i'll let you know so you dont read any further, ill still post as im sure that there are lots that will be interested in the build no matter what motor goes in it & what wheels i put on..... but in saying that im sure theres a year or 2 of posting repairs & mod's before i get to that stage & by then the first few replies will be forgotten ......

next i'll be posting up the uns***ching of the front floors & what mods are needed for a bigger trans tunnel for the t700,t350/400 an aussie 4 speed, trimatic or even a 5 speed if your daring enough.......

this is the front cut i got for the rust repairs i need to do to the front end of my car, so far ive used this for the front cowel panel & the front floor pan. Although some after market panels & rust repair sections are available for the EH it isnt the best fitting so therefore am trying to get as many original panels as possible.

  21. Heya sprx3, welcome to the HAMB. there is an aussie company called longbeach customs, their web site seems unavailable. Anyway they make traditional style wheels in big inch, they make a tasman copy, and a bunch of others that will keep your car kinda hamb friendlyish but have the big inch you like, their phone number is
0425 743 829 not sure wether the number is current, hopefully this helps. Also i have a pic of 1 of there wheel called an old school i will post a pic later as photobucket is down at the moment

Did you actually read the 'read this first section' before you posted. I still can't believe you've spent ANY time reading the HAMB.

Great project and good luck with it, but there are lots of sites that cater for modifying cars. This site is a round hole for your square peg. Sorry, but that's a fact.

  25. Hahahahahah beat me to it..... Lacks a little on the creative side me thinks.

Zoran welcome, enjoy the flaming as it seems you're determined to continue down a HAMB unfriendly style. Check out some of the early Holden Forums that are around as they'll love it. Plus there are some good ones out there (FB/EK to name just one ;) ). Good luck with the progress and fab work, it is fun sometimes....
