DATELINE; AUG. 26, ANAHEIM, CA. After nearly eight years of loyal service RIZ tells PRIMEDIA to stick it where the sun don't shine. Seriously guys, I'm leaving R&C as of Sept. 3rd. It was a tough decision, leaving my friends and co-workers but the corporate mindset was just way too much to take -- I held on as long as I could but it got to the point where it just wasn't worth the heartache. On a lighter note, I will be staying in the hot rod & custom car field (just not in publishing)and will still write freelance once in a while. I want to thank everybody that supported me over the years -- it meant a lot to me and I appreciate it more than you'll ever know. Meanwhile, I'll see ya on the road!
Good for you Riz. I think Primedia has stripped the soul out of magazines nowdays myself. I can't even imagine what it must be like working for that corporate monster.
Wow suprising, but I can sympathize I started working for the company I'm at 8-9 years ago and watched it turn from a "mom and pop shop" to a corporate nightmare, and I'm also looking to get out before it's corporate greed destroys it's self, and I'm out on my ass.
Good Luck Riz, I've enjoyed your work and I believe that you revived R & C. Hate to see ya go. Happy Trails, Mick

damn......and i was just about to start kissing your ass for some press over there........good luck man.......it must be getting bad over there....everyone is bailing out of there......if it is any consolation....i think you were doing a fine job ....the future of that mag is going to be scary now...........
Always enjoyed your editorials,Riz. Good luck, I'm sure you'll be better off and congrats on havin' the balls to say goodby to a steady check in today's world.
I thought you were already registered on the HAMB. That's too bad, but congrats for standing up for what you believe in. Best of luck to you.
Primedia and R&C are the loser on this one,Riz. I'll miss your contributions. And ..... welcome.I look forward to your input here.
Sorry to hear that the Primedia money machine got to another guy...not much sense in adding that I too, worked for Primedia in their B to B division and eventually got the boot...better to leave on your terms than theirs...Good Luck Riz, you'll land feet first! R-
Well, That just sucks. But I'm not surprised. R&C has been way too GREAT lately for the corporate schmucks to like it. I'm going to miss what the way you've been steering it has done for the magazine. May wish I hadn't just re-subscribed, too... Good luck Riz! Remember what another burned out R&C'er did to unwind and rewind? ROAD TRIP!!!!
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!! Good on ya to get out when the corporate BS gets to be too much. Bad in that I was looking forward to hanging out with you on the Ego-Rama thing. GOOD LUCK. Bob
Riz, You've done wonders for R&C...your eds will be missed. Gonna miss a guy that's into Rods & Choppers! Wish you all the luck with your new endeavors. Hope to see you around at some of the shows. Best of luck, Melon P.S. Welcome to the HAMB!!!!! dj
Sorry to hear that Riz. You know some times you have to step back to go forward! Good luck in the future and I will look forward to your freelance writings!
Leave them on a high note, I can totally empathise with you. I too have my days where I just want to hang it all up and go back to what I was born to do. I hope you find your happy place again and if you ever find yourself in the Phoenix area looking for a cold one and a dog to wrestle, just stop on by. You know the way.. Steve
DAMN!!! I hate to hear you're leaving; I think you helped turn that magazine around, and I liked the direction you were taking it. Good luck in your future endeavours and welcome! P.S. So who do I talk to about getting the money back that I just sent them for my 2 year renewal???
Hey Jim..now your free ... You can be hired by Jeff Norwell World Wide Industrys we offer: the lowest of the lowest pay rate no benifits Ultra high stress limits uncertain future ..and the highest debt ratio available today! ...uhh..wait......that position is taken......but call anyhow..operators are standing by! seriously Jim......good luck and please keep in touch Jeff
So....any ideas on starting another Mag? Or do they have that written into the contract (Anti-competition). I agree....ROAD TRIP, document the hell out of it and use it for material. Oh, and welcome to the HAMB Stevie G
[ QUOTE ] So working with JimA is THAT BAD, eh? Where has he been anyhow?? Sam. [/ QUOTE ] Apparently so- and we hadn't even shared a room! I'm around- just much quieter these days.
Liked your work at Classic Truck's as well. Leave whore mongering to the suit's.....at-least you will not have to eat from their menu any longer. Maybe The Rodder's Journal may try a monthly magazine and pool all the real talent fed up with Dictatorship's of Greed.
Now go write for OSR, they could use someone that can spell and create grammatically correct sentences.
Hey Riz Hope our drunken dinner with the rest of the Streamline crew at Columbus had nothing to do with your decision.HaHa. Good luck on whatever you decide to do.
