I am currently gathering parts for my daughters first hot rod project, and I plan to use as many of my spares and left overs that I can. I have a 37 Willys front axle ***embly, very nice condition. but it has mechanical brakes. I'd like to convert to a disc or safe drum set up. I know they have done it for years on the old g***ers etc, but what was commonly used, and what would work best for me? Budget minded? We are going to build a 57 VW oval window slide top, on a 2x3 ch***is straight axle front 3.8 V6 or 4.3, and 9" rear on ladders and coil overs, sans fenders etc, with a mild chop. Thanks in advance, part #'s or model #'s would be great Thanks, Rusty.

A really nice guy by the name of Charlie Stephens used to make a conversion kit to adapt GM disc brakes to these axles and spindles. Charlie stopped making the kits several years ago, but I had asked for and recieved permission to make drawings of the parts. I still have them, along with all of the part numbers and original instructions. PM me with your address and I'll mail you a set. The kit works well. I have one on my coupe and it stops fine.

  6. I've also got the C. Stephans plans, but I've got both sets from him. The set with the spacer for the spindle and the information for machining the spindle down so you don't need a spacer. Let me know if I can help. Carl Hagan

I think I may head this way with front brakes on my 33 willys, I just don't trust my Hurst Airheart small calipers. I'd love to get a copy, Hey Fossil, do you make the spacer?

Rods West was making the kit Charlie was selling. Not sure if Don Waldron got the rights and not sure if he's still selling them but you may try.
