Okay! I just had to brag. I never get this lucky but today I finally decided what to put in the 50' Burban....225 slant six. I had figured it all and began my search. The 2nd add I got to on Craigslist ooohhhhh hoooooaaaa I find a 225 Slant six. We call get the scoop...and with some convincing I get my guy to load up and head down to get it in Vancouver. We get there and the guy was a neat freak with no room to work with in a subdivision in a really nice neighborhood....so of co**** no shop. He not only sells the motor and trans, but it has a rebuilt starter and practically new water pump. Then he kept loading it in .....radiator, alternator, and power stering pump...............ALL FOR 50 freakin bucks. Its all going so smoothly!!!!! Yeaooowwww.
good score I have been runing one in my 41 for 14 years im pleased with it. Once i get up to high way seed it will cruise all day at high way speed. Just a word of advice, check ur steering, u made need a rear oil sump. U can find those off of pickups. I found that out the hard way.I back out the drive way and it would not turn in one direction. who would have thunk it. Lots of luck
Does it have the electronic distributor? Start looking for Clifford intakes and Offy valve covers... There are dozens of oil pan variations,I am sure even Chrysler has no idea of all the varities out there and the SL6 club has a lot of good info too.
Picked up a brand new Offy valve cover for about 140 bucks in a slantsix.org group buy a couple of months back. Great website, more information there about the slant six than just about anywhere, and a must join if you are into slant sixes, several frequent posters from your area too. Good deal! I got a '68 Mustang J code 4V 302 for 50 bucks once. I'm more of an inline six guy, but I couldn't p*** up a bent 8 for 50 bucks... let alone a decent runner. Cam that **** outta that 225! I like my Ford 300's, but 225's are SWEET!
The slant is about 6 inches longer than the flatty so you're going to have to message the firewall some. You can pick up just under 2 inche toward the front by moving the radiator to infront of the support. Check the slant 6.org site for pieces parts and lots of tech knowledge. What ****** did you get. Suburbans are cool enjoy your project. If you are thinking about upgrading the rear end, MOPAR b bodies, jeep cherokee 2wd, and ford Strangers work with a little effort.
Keep oil in it and it will run forever then a couple more days. I daily drive one in my 64 Plymouth Clifford makes headers.
I'll second the advice to go to www.slantsix.org . THey know their stuff over their. I have a '50 Plymouth roller that I wanted to put a /6 in. A fun and easy engine. And yes, please do keep us posted. Joe
