Does anyone know of anyone is still making theses type of stacks. All i can find is the cheap chrome ones on ebay . This one is spun aluminum . I need another one for a cross ram on my drag car. Also while were on the subject does anyone know the pros and cons to running stack on a car ...street or race? Other than the obviouse no breather filament...
we run one on a sbc alterd with a wire mess to stop stones work great even run a top shot through it aswell runs 9.6 with a stockish engine
Sorry don't know where to buy more. Running with out any air filtration on the street tends to cause slightly accelerated bore wear due to the fine particles of grit which get dragged in and then stick to the oil film on the cylinder wall, but other than that I have never found any problem. oddly enough have often found small stones in the exhaust which I promise can only have got there by first having gone through the engine, and these never seem to hurt anything on thier way through, it's the very fine stuff that causes the damage.
These are a bit different but they are alluminum and come indeiiferent sizes. I like em. http://www.doglipsspeedshop.com/MurocVelocityStack.php
Problem with most of the stacks made now is that they are mostly for 2 barrels. Im running a Elderbrock cross ram with 2-4s on my drag car.
These were made locally on the early 1970s by a guy with a lathe who knew how to do spinning. Back then I paid $15 each. Don
I'm running a pair on my bucket, I have installed the short aircleaners inside of these which stick up about an inch over the top. It's not great for flow but good for filtering, here's with out the fliters.
It's not NHRA legal to run open stacks on carbs, you need a deflector on top to keep the air flow from siphoning gas out of the carb and into the airflow over your car. That hurts performance too. Injectors can be open on top, but not carbs. You need an air filter element or a scoop or other cover to be legal. On the street, when it rains hard you have to keep your engine revving pretty high to keep it from drowning. But it's the same with air filters. I got bounced long ago with this car and had to put a scoop on it.
