I just received a flyer from the Danbury Mint advertising their newest release: a 1/24die-cast replica of the Norm Grabowski "Kookie T"! I was very impressed with the adverti*****t. As usual, the folks at the Danbury Mint have acheived meticulous detail in this reproduction. Included in the mailer was a personal letter from Norm endorsing the product he was asked to provide technical advice for as a consultant. I've always been a big fan of this vehicle and it's creator, Norm Grabowski, the "Great Grandaddy of the T Bucket", I've met with Norm on a number of occasions, and have always enjoyed his recollections of evolving as a young hotrodder "back in the day" when it all started. Check this Danbury product out if you get the chance! It's really cool!
It is a good looking replica, I saw an adverti*****t in the program they handed out at the GNRS. They are also doing a replica of Watsons Squarebird and the Ala Kart. I ordered the Squarebird the next day. Hope it gets here soon Here are some pics of the Bird, Lots of detail. http://www.legacydiecast.com/xq/asp/id.DM1553/qx/review.htm
Mine came yesterday but was broken in the package. Danbury is making good on it. Looks real good with lots of intricate detail but fragile.

Norm Grabowski's diminutive hot rod was such a hit that it was featured on the cover of Car Craft magazine in April of 1957, as well as most other leading rodding magazines of the time. From there, it became the ride of actor Edd Byrnes (a.k.a. Kookie) in the hit television series 77 Sunset Strip. It was at that point that the car itself picked up a name that has forever been immortalized in hot rod history Kookies Kar. Equally at home on the drag strip, the floor of the Oakland Roadster Show, or on the TV screen, this red, white and blue all-American beauty became a cl***ic that has spawned countless imitators. Norms car was so well thought out and so beautifully finished that it is easy to see why the T-bucket became a style all its own, and continues to be an inspiration for hot rods more than 50 years later. Available for the first (and only!) time in 1/24 scale precision die-cast, Kookies Kar can now find another home in your collection. This is a strictly limited edition. Models will be produced only until December 31, 2009 -- never again!
got mine the other day...go's well with my coupe.....now, i ordered it months ago, way before i was this broke!!!
I've got the Ala Kart, Hirohata Merc, and the Watson Bird. All are excellent models. Looks like the Mint will get some more of my money.
Geeezzzz...gotta give the "Danbury Mint" crew a pat on the back! Thats incredible. You could BUILD a real Bucket or Modified just by copying the model...its that realistic! Glad to see Norm get this kind of recognition.
Got mine yesterday.....it fits in nicely with all the other Danbury stuff I have.....and I am running out of room!!!
Where do we get one? I never got a flyer. Sadly it prob cost the same as what Norm paid for it when he built it.
Oh great, just when I thought I had kicked the diecast habit. This is really going to test my will power.
For whatever it's worth, Danbury Mint says they will produce the Kookie T on a limited run;....and it will not be produced again after 12/31/09. I ordered mine yesterday;...just in case they're not kidding!!!!! Seriously, this is a historical icon, and may sell really fast! I have acquired quite a few of their die-casts over the years, but don't understand why thery have not produced a lot of the 50's cars. the 57 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, 55, 56, or 57 Olds or Pontiacs,etc;
That takes me back in time. 77 Sunset Strip ! I hear Kookie aka Edd Burns is a cranky old guy and has caused a few problems at car shows asking crazy money for autographs.
