I know this is not really H.A.M.B. related but in a way it is, I know there are several bike riders on here and what I did was really stupid looking back. My accident happened on an ATV but it can happen to anyone, I thought it would be no problem to take a quick run down the road, I have a Grizzly 660 and I was running about 55 or 60 and hit a snow pile I did not see, I flew over 150 feet before hitting the pavement. I have a severe concusion, broken nose, fractures in my left ankle, right elbow, and both wrists, many bruises, 19 staples in my head, and lots of road rash. I know riding without a helmet is alot more fun, but it almost ended my life, so please learn from my stupidity. Jim

Just about any part of our body can be repaired, replaced or we can live without...except for our head.

When I was 14 years old I saw a young man leave the road on a motorcycle without a helmet. He was less then 20yds from me when he left the road...by the time I got to him he was dead. Kinda makes an impression seeing how fragile life can be at such an early age.

Glad you're gonna be OK bro!

I hope you pull thru ok.
living in Michigan they require Helmet use on anything (except for cars), but living so close to the Ohio line as I do Ive been known to pull of the Ol brain bucket once crossing the State Line. After last summer I was talking to a guy at a local Harley hang out, and he showed me his injuries , and my Neighbor across the street also got into a spill on his HD I no longer pull my lid off..It used to be the rebel thing to do, but Ive got a wife and Kid to support and they would have a tuff time without me or if i was rendered useless due to head injury..

I had a trail bike throw me. I was sliding along, head first when a big rock stopped me. Split the helmet in 2. I never ride without a helmet.

Glad you're gonna be ok. I live with persistent headaches so I always sympathize with folks like you with head injuries. Pain in the brain sucks no matter how it got there.

Alright, I can't help but ask this... You said that you hit a snow pile that you didn't see? PLEASE explain this.

  14. Thats some scary shit. Glad you are OK.

When I was 16 my friend laid his bike down and hit a curb. He died instantly.

My friend's 18 year old son just died from hitting his head while snowboarding.

It seems your number wasn't up just yet.

Hope you pull out of it OK, and wear a fuckin helmet from now on!!!

I need an accident like I need another hole in the head. :D (sorry, couldn't resist, glad you lived)

  19. If it's ok with you, I'm posting some of these outside my space at work. You will have some RAD scars from that launch session of yours!

As someone who's been through a few helmets and works for a prominent helmet company, i thought I'd seen it all, but your injuries look oh so painful my heart goes out to you.

I spent 20 or so weeks of 2008 on crutches thanks to a similar accident, and I didn't even get a headache. Of course I was wearing a helmet I helped develop at the time.

PM me with your head size after the swelling goes down and I'll send you a new helmet - that surgical work will require protection!

    hdh

  20. Glad your OK,I live in a non-helmet law state and wear one about 75% of the time...helmets are like condoms...dont wear it and know the risk........then again Ive riden my harley and havent gone down in over 20 years.....rider training and luck have a lot to do with it

I used to run a 200 MPH funny bike. I'm not sayin' I'm a great rider or nothing, but I wouldn't test my kid's 80cc training bike in my backyard without helmet, boots, gloves, jacket and at least jeans.
Don't ride without the right gear, If you do, you are an idiot.
cfnutcase, I wish you a speedy and full recovery. Don't do that again, ever.

I was riding on a closed section of highway, there was a bridge over it, the plows had thrown the snow over the edge of the bride above the road and it was in a pile like a speed bump, but it was about 3 feet tall. The snoww had melted a bit and refroze so it was pretty much ice so it was very hard, it was dirty so it was dark, this happend when it was getting close to dusk and it was in the shadow of the bridge so it was just very hard to see it. I remember ssing it and thinking brakes, I dont know if I got to hit them or not, it was all over so fast, the next thing I knew I was on the pavement in a big puddle of blood. Jim

Gross pictures man, glad to hear like you're gonna make it. Good thing there isn't much hair up there so we can all see the bloody severity of your O/T ATV crash!! The lack of hair will also come in handy when showing off the major scar tissue later on....... but til then get a turban or something and keep your dome covered!!!!
