Hello fello H.A.M.B. Members, I joined this forum to find inspiration and ideas for my 1946? Ford 1 ton truck. I found this truck in our pasture left to rust and decided to fix it up. Well, being only 17, I have never restored a vehicle of that age and destress, and never worked on a flathead V8 before, come to think of it I have never restored a vehicle ever. So this is a new thing for me and after seeing all the videos, pictures, and stories, I feel this is going to be a project I will cherish for the rest of my life and I felt I should share it with all who want to see it. Gonna be a nice ride when you get done. You can look forward to driving it to the Hunnert Car Pile up in Morris Il. Looking forward to your build pics. This Board is the best around, your really going to like all the help you get from thease guys.
Welcome from a few miles away!I hope you find this site as rewarding as i have. There are alot of good people here and awhole lot with alot of great knowledge!
Well, I have made progress. I have taken the V8 which I soon discovered to be cracked pretty bad, taken the bed off, removed many of the things under the hood, and am currently looking for a Carbed 302 with attached tranny, which I think I have found. But my dad is really not confident with me working on this and made me drag it back out into the barn. Although I'm still going to work on it. And thank you all for the warm welcomes to this great site!
That's too bad your pop is not that supportive. He should get in there and help you. We're confident in you! How/where cracked is the FH?
Well, the cylinder wall was busted out from water being frozen and busted and many of the valve guides were rusted out A guy said he could fix it but it would cost way to much for me. I think I have found one and I hope the guy still has it and I am planning on getting it. Some updates on the truck. I have done some inspection on it and the frame is in great shape. The roof and floorboards need rebuilt. Cab corners, bottom of doors, some hood work, fender work, drivetrain work, brake work, suspension work, but other than that its in good shape! I was surprised to find that 3 of the tires held air+ the spare! So it roles nicely around. I hope to get some more pictures soon. Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone!
Welcome to the HAMB, you should find it a great experience. I will be interested to see what you do with your truck too. My son-in-law is working on his grandfather's 41 Ford (just chopped the top by 3"), so he will be interested in yours too.
Welcome to the HAMB. Keep focused the the project. Make a plan as to how you want it to look. If your not sure about something, ask questions. That's what this site is all about. Don't rush it and it will turn out fine. GOOD LUCK!!!
