    I live by this:
    GROWING OLD IS MANDATORY
    GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL!

And being cool is just something I was born with:D

"Everyone will always be Kool. because of all the Kool cars YOU all own."
Sorry, gotta disagree with that one. I have seen many a cool car that was owned by a real asshat. I think that often that is why the term "goldchainer" is used as a putdown. Sure, I have run across some "goldchainers" that are arrogant morons. I have also run across some that are REALLY nice people. They just don't have the skills/time to build a hot rod. They are far cooler than some of the idiots that grace this fine forum.

Let's see, I'm 33. I work with a bunch of 20yo MX racers who tell me I'm old, but cool, and they all call me the "Den Mother" even though I don't have any kids. My husband (at 37yo) says we're still too young, have too many cool toys and do too much cool stuff to start having kids yet.

I have no answers. I only know this. I love sittin' and chattin' with members of prior generations a hell of a lot more than most of the "youngsters" I'm surrounded by most of the time. Better stories, better wisdom and A LOT better company.

awesome perspective on life you codgers got! I applaud your get up and go attitude for life. remember "either get busy living or get busy dying"-shawshank redemption. I'm only 29 and it seems the older and older i get the less and less i care about what people think. I'm all about the comfort factor so if that means wearing some shoes with huge springs on the back than i'm all for it. My dad is 62 now and i have forwardedthis link to him so hopefully it will put a smile on his face.

For all of you guys that worked your ass off and never seemed to get to enjoy the things that your peers did, keep this in mind.

YOUR NEVER TOO OLD TO HAVE A HAPPY CHILDHOOD

Sometimes getting a late start is better. With the wisdom you've accumulated you can avoid most of the pitfalls the plague the young. If for example if you missed the joys of drugs, smoking and alcohol your in better shape than the ones who did and you'll probably live longer and be healthier to enjoy your GOLDEN years.

I'm only 28 and Ive noticed this... I think the deisire to be "cool" is what is sending this country down the drain. My generation is obssesed with it. People my age buy the latest coolest cell phone, drive $60,000 bmw's and mercedes, wear the latest brand name clothes, all while living fancy house in a nice area that they can't afford.

COOLNESS is destroying our country ... I'm not old, but i ain't cool either...

you know you are right. I grew up with my cars and outher guys with cars. All day saturday we worked on the roundy round cars saturday night we went racing. Sunday was spent at the drags.helping our friends in the pits. Working our day jobs. Then nights building our hot rods at night. Rock en roll was young and so were we. Good times real good times.

I'm not old, but I really don't give a damn what others think is "cool" or fitting into some box.

    I like what I like.

It's cool to get old & different than I imagined. Waking up with aches & pains?
That's better than waking up with a mouth full of dirt.
The next place may be better, it may be worse, IT will be different.
We are here for only a short time, enjoy it.

In the early '70's, Jerry Garcia from the Greatful Dead had a blue grass band on the side called " Old & In The Way". I think that's got to go on the back of my Mod. A.

when i was 19 cool was one of those shirts that changed color when you wore it, now that i'm 36 cool is a pair of boots that don't kill my feet on concrete all day. when you are young, you stand in front of the mirror for twenty minutes before going to the store to impress the young girls, when you are old, you go to walmart at 3:00 am,with your hair sticking up, unshaven,in your jogging pants, and really could care less, plus the young girls seem ditzy and annoying, and you just want to go back home so you can fall back asleep next to your wife. when you are young you always keep a comb in your pocket, when you are old you just keep your hair cut short so the bald spot isn't as visible, and your comb hasn't seen the light of day in years. :D

I'm 60, and 'cool' doesn't cut it any more, comfy does.

I wear $20 joggers, $29 jeans, $12 T shirts, and $10 sunglasses, and I'm COMFY, but I'm most comfy in a piar of baggy old boardshorts, a faded surf T shirt and BARE FEET....

My hair's pure white and I cut it myself with my beard trimmer set on No.6, why waste $20 for some young hairdresser to cut it with professional clippers set on No.6? I've still got the full beard i grew in 1970, but I did shave it off once and my wife burst into tears so I took the hint and grew it back!

I still like hard rock and I still love the surf and I still love old cars, just like I've done for 40 years, and I still love my wife just like I've done for 30 years, and that's all the 'cool' I need.

    Cheers, Glen.

Tuxie's closed and recently re-opened. But my favorite, the B&B is gone forever. Its still all cool. I'm taking the Norton to Bonneville this year. Ain't dead yet.

  23. ""Cool is all relative - I didn't own a pair of shorts or God forbid a pair of sandals until a couple of years ago! I've learned, now I'll take comfort over style any day.""

OH,OH, I have told all my friends if you see me in shorts or sandals take me to the hospital immediately because something is very wrong. Turned down rubber boots and a flannel shirt ,(aka Madoc Dinner Shirt) are in style for me.
Seriously though I was never cool. Many years ago I realized that. It seemed to free me and I worked at my own pace and style. Since I felt no need to be in I was free. Now at almost 60 (59) I know it was theright way to go. Now when I go to cruise night or the drags with one of my creations I see them standing around looking and when i go for a burger swarming the project to have a closer look. When I run the Sr dragster even the naysayers come to the fence to watch. If I had folowed the in crowd I would never have built any of this stuff. I would also have been hampered severly by the status quo opinion. I believe you have it figured out. Enjoy it

  24. Wanna know what real "coolness" is?

The fact that those who are considered by their peers to be "cool" are usually unaware of their elevation to those frosty levels of coolness....

Now, if you can figure that out, you're cool !!

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it would be about cars.

Just because a car is old does not mean it is cool or ever was cool.
Ramblers, 48-52 Dodges and International trucks never were cool and will never be no matter how old they get.

I've spent more $$$ in my life when I was younger "trying to look cool".
Cool wheels for the daily driver, etc.
I think it was different when I was young and single. Trying to get noticed (chicks) accepted, etc.
Now that I've been hapily married with kids-gotten older, I don't sweat what others think but try to make myself happy.
