muncie 4 speed ID help

i just picked up a muncie 4 speed and was wondering if anybody could help me figure out what it is and what it came out of , heres the info ....

the side of the case says 3925660 us patent no 30885660
the side where the shift linkage is says 3884685
and the tail shaft says 3857584GM
there is also a partial vin stamped on it with a Z in which im guessing means fremont ca?

From what I can find it's 68-70 M-20 which is the wide ratio but no idea of what it was in

ok , if my memory sevres me correctly , the M20 was as stated , wide ratio ... the M22 was a close ratio heavy duty . if i remember correctly , we sought out the M22 for racing . muncies are good trans , it replaced the "T"10 ..... steve

 

cool , i knew it wasnt a M-22 because ive ridden in the camaro it was in (wasnt orig to that car , it was like a 78-9) im replacing the saginaw in my 55 chevy truck with it so i guess whatever it is its stronger that ****** . does anyone know if the splines in the yoke are the same on the muncie and the saginaw? btw , thanks for the info

 

The M-20 or any other Munice will have either 10 or 26 spline input shaft but not sure on the Saginaw

 

Should take a turbo350, powerglide, sag munci, were the same

 

Yes the out put shaft splines are the same on th eM-20 and saginaw and t-350. I've had all 3 in my truck at one time or another.

hey thanks for all the great info , ratatat ,that link was very helpful i found out it is a M-20 made jan 12 1968 . not that it really matters i just wondering . once again thanks , im more of a lurker than a poster but its nice every once and a while to post something and get good info instead of a bunch smart*** remarks from the "traditional keyboard tough guys "
