Wierd Spark plug setup

Have any of you seen a spark plug setup like this before? From the research I've done its either An old firetruck set up or an airplane??? the Numbers Part # on the big plug is Y-4 And the little plug Part # is v

 

Interesting, where did you find that set-up?

I suppose it was one of those redundancy systems. I once owned a 1942 American LaFrance fire truck with a flathead V-12 engine. It had two seperate and complete ignition systems. One distributor was driven from the camshaft and the other was driven from the crankshaft. There was a switch on the dash where you could select either of the systems of both together. Each cylinder had 2 plugs but they were the same plugs and in seperate holes

is that the old waste spark system. Im not really sure im just spitting out stuff!

 

It was in some stuff my Dad got from an old friend of his when he p***ed away. He wasn't sure what it was for and his freind always had weird **** he was tinkering with so It Could be from anything.

 

Should do well on ebay for the spark plug collectors....

 

I think it was the result of family inbreeding and genetic fluke - toss it back.

Unfortunately, the answer isn't quite as romantic as you were probably hoping for.

I't an ignitor off an old gas furnace.

 

Did it use 12 or 6 volt or 120 volt ?

 

Cant say... I worked for an HVAC company for a few weeks back when I was a teenager, and they kept spark plugs on the trucks to service the units that used them. I got a better job and quit before I learned any of the tricks, but I did see a couple gas furnaces that used the spark ignition before I left.

Wish I could give you more details. I just dont know anything about them... But I have seen them, so I'm sure that's what it came from.

I don't think its home made unless they had a mill to do it with. The spots where they thread in is milled flat for just the size of the plug not just drilled and tapped. Its kinda hard to see in the pictures but definitively made for this purpose.

I would guess airplane engine. Maybe an old radial or something?

 

if it is internal combustion, it would be pretty inneficient, with the electrode shrouded up in that hole.. I have seen vintage car engines with a threaded 'holder' like that for the spark plug before, not the two plugs though.

 

Yeah, I've seen "extenders" like that, but only w/1 plug. Back in the day, J.C.Whitney sold them for engines that burned oil, so your plugs wouldn't foul. As lowsqire said, I would think they would be very inefficient..............
