Millions of T Buckets and as another thread pointed out bucket type rides made from Dodge Brothers roadsters but are there any modified bucket type rods made out of early Chevrolet bodies? I am unfamiliar with early chevy cars but cannot recall ever seeing one from the 20's or earlier. Were the old Chevrolets just not good rodding material? Wp
Early Chevys were made with a LOT of wood with sheet metal panels attached to it. The wood rots and the panels are all thats left, making it a lot more work.
I don't have a link but it was up this morning. A feller had built an awesome bucket from an early Dodge Brothers tub. I also knew a guy with a bucket built from a '24 Dodge Brothers. Wp
There are plenty of "T"buckets built from early Dodge open car bodies, a few Chevys, a few Buicks, a few of lots of different makes. There are cut-off-top closed cars of various makes too, even Model As. Some call them "Modified"s, some "Lakester"s, and other terms often dependent on what part of the country or state you are in. The early Dodge stud mount flatbottom frames fit 23-25 T roadsters perfectly. The later Dodge stud mounted curved bottom frames may fit 26-27 Ts, but I'm not sure.
Chevrolets are a nightmare of structural wood until the middle 30's. I have had many Fords, and now I have a 25 Dodge and a 31 Chevy. I have started on the Chevy and it is a pain in the butt compared to any A. That Dodge is all 16 guage steel and heavy as hell but I can't wait to get to it.
On frustrating days in the garage, I've considered turning my 28 Chevy four door into a tub, but I haven't been willing to follow through...yet.
Here is my 31 chevy, it was a four door sedan that someone long ago cut down into this little bucket body. I was originally going to build a modified out of it, but for the sake of having somewhere to put my shit on road trips, I picked up a 32 Chevy frame and am going to build it into a Roadster pickup.
Here is a 27 chevy I am working on as time permits. Started with just a cowl and doors. Alot of work replacing all the wood but worth it to do something different.
I built a roadster 31 roadster pickup starting with a car cowl building doors and the rear of the cab. the inner structure is all 1" box tubing. You can go to my profile for pictures. It is a lot of work but will be differnt.
There was a sweet '27 Chevy Modified in R&C a few issues back...You can find pics of the car all over the HAMB...I think Jigger drew a pretty bad ass picture of it too... Here's a link to the feature... http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/featuredvehicles/0809rc_1927_chevy_modified_roadster/index.html I've got a '30-31 Poncho and a '26 Willys Whippet I want to turn into RPU's or maybe one a tub...or scrap...I'm not really sure...I'm so confused with my projects right now.
