I am taking my T apart panel by panel and want to soak it in molasses to remove the rust. Anyone have a tank big enought for a T cowl? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=332093
Actually, I was hoping someone had one set up with the molasses so I could do a test(with a donation of BBQ or beer). I hate to go to the expsnse of setting one up if my parts are so thin there isn't enough left to re-build.
Does Molasses actually work on rust?? And the size of your parts,How much will it take to completely cover them? Is it more cost effective?
I've got a buddy that swears by white vinegar. He's got a huge shop in Palestine, Tx with plenty of room, so he set up a fiberglass shower with a pump that keeps a constant shower over the parts and it's big enough for hoods, etc... I seen some pretty rusted parts come out looking like brand new metal.
I'm gonna try this: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=324259&highlight=electrolysis
Kyle (TcoupeKyle) gave me a free T Roadster, complete with rust and bondo! That's how friends do each other. Thanks, KFed. I think it can be saved. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=308479
RichardD - DUH -Use your hot tub your already a redneck! What about those used oil tanks with the aluminum cages around them ( 250 gallons, I think). There are some for sale close to my house. Go down past Mo's Texaco and it's at a house on the left.
I have a vinegar tank set up now. well more like a tupperware bowl. I took the trim clips from my buick and soaked them. So far the ones I did is coming up white metal. Richard if you need 6mil plastic I have a warehouse full. Contact me if you need a roll. TP
That is so funny, it did flash through my head! I don't think I will do that, though, as tempting as it is.
Richard, I would say no to the molasses & vinegar. I use a product called Evapo-rust. Great stuff... By the way when are you going to stop by my shop?
