This showed up on another forum and it appears to be intended on putting the hurt on modified street vehicles in Oregon HB 2186 http://www.semasan.com/main/main.aspx?id=62515
This is a nightmare of extreme porportions, but because of the extreme nature it will die. It simply affects too many people in a state that is fighting for the title of 'most unemployed'. Gotta give the Dems credit for trying so hard to bankrupt the state. .
What a fricken joke! What a terrible display of power to show that someone is doing more than holding down a chair in an office! I can't see how this will ever passs. This bill will close down so many businesses and make any purchase for you vehicle impossible... besides... who will enforce this? Can you see a cop making performance evaluations on your car as to how to fine you? WE elected these guys to come up with this crap! Let them pry the performance manifold from my dead clinched hands!
The police wouldn't enforce it. Most likely DEQ would. Can't get your car licensed, can't be on the street, then you get cited for expired tags, etc etc. I can't imagine how a tire resistance rating would ever be performed in real world conditions. That usually requires a drag sled that measure the friction coefficient of the surface of the road.....and a buttload of math. More stupid posturing for the vocal minority.
Sounds like some of that goofy air from Karlifornication must have blown north into Salem and the Gov's been smok'in it.
Damn and everyone thinls cali is on the fruit train!!! where the hell did they come up with this rolling resistance garbage anyway? someone needs to slap the crap out of all the idiots that beleive the al gore crap.
it's right up there with installing GPSs on vehicles to tax people by-the-mile. (And also keeping tabs on your location) http://economics.about.com/od/taxesandeconomicgrowth/a/mileage_tax.htm The longer I live outside of Oregon (I grew up there), the more I see it go to shit. It is such a beautiful state, but sadly dominated by retarded politicians...
.........and I thought the silly smog tests in Portland were bad..... I usta LOVE living in Orygun but lately it getting worser and worser....glad we don't have that crap here in the midwest but we also band all our car clubs together to form the car-council and have even hired a lobbiest to help us fight this kinda crap...
Sounds like somebody knows this place all to well. P.S. to all the "gay" comments so far. "Straight" people are to blame for as much lame bills, laws, rules,... as anybody else.
Sounds like there trying to get every one to ride bicycles, Thats the Polititions for ya.. Thats Not Good.. I hope it does not pass.. I read somewhere about Mantitoba Canada trying to something simular.. except it was about the certain age of a car that would not be able to be registered.. Im not sure what the out come was..
I wouldn't sit still and say it won't happen though. I'd be getting as many people as possible to sending letters or making phone calls to the reps. The line where the they try to say that aftermarket tires don't have the same quality standards as oem tires tells the whole tale. H.B. 2186 would force consumers to purchase only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) tires because the program essentially exempts OEM-selected tires and unfairly implies that they are superior to aftermarket products. I sold and installed tires for a number of years and never once had anyone with a new car ask me for tires of a lower quality than oem tires. It is always pull the oem crap off and install some decent tires that last longer an handle better. We have fought some silly assed legislation in Washington state lately but this tops ours by a long shot.
Many a bloviating politican are staying up at night pondering new and moronic ways of creating funds for cash strapped state budgets... amazingly these clownboys and girls will get some of these passed, do you all really think they give a ratbastards ass in hot rodding...??
damn glad I left Milwaukie and moved to arizona.........you Oregon guys should be able to kick this out.....just gotta have someone gay fight for ya so the people in office can relate to them,if ya know what I mean
You should start a gay-rodder forum here on the HAMB! Seriously, save the PC shit for the Oregonian. Steve is an upstanding dude.
Oh God, Teddy Tax and Gouge is at it again, and they re-elected him! Damn sure didn't get my vote, EVER! I wondered how long it would take for these LIBERAL jerks to start trying to enact laws that would affect our hot rods.
Hate to see stuff like this, it'll only go north when that dumb bitch Gov. of Wa hears about it. Doesn't california already have something like this?? They'll have to pry the steering wheel and my guns outa my cold dead hands
I forwarded the HB info to one of my club officers. He's forwarding it to the MHRC. The more I read it, the more it sounds like a tire monopoly. I guess Taxandgougeme bought some rubber stocks.
I fired off a letter of protest to every Oregon politician with an Email address and got one reply, the bill looks like it was written by someone that rides the buss.
This is getting a lot of attention. On an jeep forum NAXJA there is a thread in the Northwest section, it has all auto enthusiasts from hot rodders to four wheelers concerned. This law would even make tires with added rolling resistance illegal.
There's only going to be more of the same as these tree-hugging, V8-despising TITheads gain more power. They've finally gotten the majority they've needed and now they have a president that will pass out their sheet music. We're going to be very sorry over the next few years...oh yeah...and poor, too. This requires vigilance on the part of SEMA, hot rodders, and anyone else that cherishes the rights of the individual (ie: 2nd amendment). dj
Yeah,put the blame on California....... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7IU1bzZheWk&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7IU1bzZheWk&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Maybe when the sky hits all of us in the head the SEMA sky is falling bandwagon will make more sense. The SEMA Action Network, where the blurb came from, is a great way to stop politicians who wouldn't know a crankshaft from a candy cane shoved up there butt. (No, no gay comment there) SEMA reacts to the same things that will stiffle its members way of making a living as effect the way we car nuts live for our cars. Get involved. It has worked to keep hot rods in California,,,so far. (No, I do not work there anymore, but still think SEMA has a great value)
Oh, BTW, California is mostly responsible for bringing you hot rods, customs and the car culture, so something we smoke must be right....lol
