I put a 250ci in my 32 . I still have to figure out what to do with the firewall . How much clearance do you need between the firewall and the engine/ more the exhaust. How do you extend the firewall while making it look original.?
Yeah but the Black Chevy is prob proportioned the best, notice how the depth of the 32 frame offsets the added length? VERY SUBTLE
there is a coupe where i live that has a 250 chevy 6 in it . he doghoused the firewall , boxed the frame . looks good ...... steve
Tman, how much do you think was added? I could never figure out why this car always looked better suited w/ the 235 than the others. Ionia Hot Rod Shop will be building me a frame and I'd like it to fit as well as that frame and not look so long or awkward. I was thinking that setting back would be the best solution since it's a highboy and I'm running side-drafts. I'll avoid a lot of issues that way.
I dunno? On a Ford body it might look way too long, they just nailed it with this car. I have several ideas on mine, feel free to PM me Brent, we can talk.
Im building(loose term its been 8 years no progress) a 28 model a rpu. Its got a 138 ci holden grey motor (3/4 version of a stovebolt) with all the finned gear and triple sidedraught su carbys off an old hill climb car. Im using a 48 ford front end and the body channeled 4" and moved rearward 4" and the diff moved 4" rearward behind the cross member.
Tman - I'm not sure of the measurements, but the Chevy cowl seems shorter than a Ford one... maybe that is why the porportions seem better. It looks like the firewall is uncut. - Joe
Hey SanDiegoJoe, I like your first pic in that group of pics you posted.... HAHA, mainly cuz its my Sedan!! Heres another shot of it lil more done than that pic, and currently the engine is almost all assembled and painted so you know what that means.... a new post on it comin to computer screens near you soon... btw, this one is a 66 Pontiac Tempest Overhead Cam inline.

It didn't appear that anyone mentioned the fact that the later 194/230/250/292 inliners are shorter , lower , lighter and of course more powerful , reliable and have more speed equipment available to start with . Not to mention way more transmission choices . Did I mention the fact that all but the 292 use sbc mount systems so any sbc conversion kit will mount the inliner as well ? Just a thought .
I just scored a 68 250 & earlier 3 spd yesterday ! Will be going in 29 A 4dr , Chopped 6 & channeled 4 ! Will be keeping stock wheelbase & recessing firewall & cowl !
Oh, this is cool. Do you know how much modification would have to be done to squeez that into a '48 Chevy? Given that the block is, as you say, three inches longer?
Anyone have a shot of an A with a Hudson six already installed? I wonder how long they are compared to the late Chevy six.
Great thread . Gives me ideas for the 31 A I just hauled home . I have a 1957 235 out of a car that I had picked up a couple years ago for another project that changed direction .
