I have a 350/350 combo in my 51 F-1. The motor was originally in a 69 impala from the factory. I am not sure what the ****** came from but it has been rebuilt. It has a 168 tooth flexplate. The starter I had on it would grind and then it would not disengage from the flexplate. We put another starter on it and it spun it over but it still ground. When I pulled the starter originally I don't remember there being any shims in it. Both of the starters had 9 teeth on them. I was wondering if it would be shims or the wrong starter. Any help is appreciated
what brand of starter? Make SURE you have real starter bolts and not regular bolts. I just went thru this and it was an AUTOZONE JUNK starter.
Sounds like my wife talking about the car not starting, untill I have to go the litany of what she means, and what is happening What do you mean the starter grinds? Does it still not disengage? Did you replace the starter gear? Have you tried shimming it out? traderjack
The one on it now will disengage fine. I am not sure what brand this one is. The other was a duralast. This is just an old one my dadhad laying around. I am going to try shims on it tomorrow
