was wondering if anyone has any info on this intake. or ralphs muffler shop? I was told that the company that made fenton intakes would custom make intakes for you if you bought so many? its a 2x2 intake that looks just like a fenton. thanks
Ralph's Muffler Shop has been in business for over 60 years here in Indy. It's still operated by the family, having p***ed from Ralph Sr. to Ralph Jr many years ago. In the early '50s, the shop was also the premier speed shop in Indy, marketing the Potter brand of camshafts as well as(apparently) intakes for Flatheads. The shop has always fielded race cars-starting with a track roadster in the late '40s and continuing until just a few years ago with USAC (Championship winning) midgets. I saw the Ebay ad and thought: "Ohmygod"! As an asides, Tom Cherry; up the road in Muncie, who ran THE speed shop in the Indiana/Ohio/Michigan market, also had somebody casting intakes with HIS name on them.
I believe Fenton, Almquist, and other intake makers would make runs of their manifolds with different names on them for bulk purchase retailers. I'm surprised no one has found one with J.C. Whitney or Warshawsky's or Sears Roebuck or Montgomery Ward or Western Auto on them.
I have a pair of Fenton (look alike) five spokes that have Sears and Roebuck cast on the back. Don't know who actually built them.
Apparently he is still in the area. Coventry area near Akron. http://www.topix.com/forum/city/youngstown-oh/TQDAA0UI6VETIJ763 There was an Article in the Akron Beacon Journal Published on February 25, 2008
