I just picked up a 1948 ford coupe, plans are for a full custom like the old Jesse Lopez car or the Gil Ayala car.The question i have is how did they lower the rear so much, did they install a straight crossmember in the rear... maybe dearched the spring 'till it was straight? What is the old school tech on lowering the rears on the mid `40's Fords.
The "Old School" tech to lower those cars was loooonnnnggg shackles. Of course, then the car swayed side to side like a fishtailing trailer. To get the car that low, you will need to cut the floor and move the crossmember up/flatten it. Are you planning to run the stock drivetrain?
i was planning on dropping a small block in the car.have you ever flattened a crossmember and how did it drive
