I had 2 spares because of 2 bolt patterns at one point, but now I've got 1 bolt pattern, but all bias ply tires and a radial spare. So I guess I'm SOL as well.

I haven't travelled with a spare for years and years. I carry plugs and the tools to repair a nail or screw puncture, and a small thowaway compressor.

Knock on wood, I have never needed them.

Here's a vote for a spare, but I don't have that big'n'little deal. Next car I will. But on the current lowrider it just made sense to me to have a spare. I have plenty trunk space. I also got AAA but what's AAA gonna do if you cut hell out of a tire on a piece of roadkill metal? Tow you to some place where they sell $100 ream-the-stranger tires? Been there, don't care to make a return trip.

I don't have a spare, and haven't needed one until a few weeks ago. I was on my way home from out of town when my back fatty separated. I was in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday morning. I called a friend with a trailer.

I never give it thought, I have 3 rods, one with a trunk no spear, one with a pick-up bed, no spear, one with spindle mounts on front no spear. Just hope I never need one

I used to carry a spare when I had my '48 Chevy pickup, but I don't in the Essex. Two different bolt patterns and not enough room in the box. I do have a cell phone and an AAA membership though. :)

  17. I run a spare, went to a local tire shop and they tried a few different steel wheels 'till they found one that fit. I had a MAJOR issue come up once without a spare. I won't run without one again.

You've got a trunk in the car and a modern donut spare is doable so do it. A small jack, lug wrench and spare can have you up and back on the road in 10 minutes or less if you're good at it.
Why not carry your own time saver and hassle reducer? If there is room not carrying a spare is carrying the macho stud thing a little far, don't you think?

My '66 Coronet wagon has 195/60/15s on the front, and 270/60/15s in the back. I have one spare tire spot in the floor of the back, and one in the right quarter panel. ;)

I think an interesting topic would be, "Who here has honestly gotten a flat?" I'm 46, and the whole time I've had a license, I have only gotten one flat, and that was with a car that had bias-ply tires (in '78) and, only then because I waited a waaay too long to replace it. Never say never, but if you're car's roadworthy before you leave home, your chance of getting a flat is pretty small. I've been stranded more times with a rod sticking out of the block (twice) than with flat tires, and I'm not ready to start lugging a spare motor.
