agreed. Fortunately for us ND'ers, there isnt much of a "scene" and its pretty unlikely that someone would take something off a car, such as an air cleaner, cause they dont have any idea what they are looking at to start with. Nobody has ever messed with my t-bucket. Yet.

Depends on how good of a fighter you are, too. Sometimes it might be worth someone messing with your car just so you can catch them doing it. Im still young (dumb) enough to come out swinging.

worst thing i had was kids jumping on my trucks running boards, and once a old fat man sitting on my fender to take a rest, either time i was ok with it but when the little 13 year old punks thought it would be cool to open up my hood when i wasnt around and also jump in it like it was theirs i got a little irrate.

It was just after American Graffitti had come out and I was working at MickyD's in Augusta, A tour bus had stopped and my Duece was sitting outside (yellow 5 window, by coincidence!, I have pics I should post but they're old faded 110mm).. Well anyway the bus was full of German tourists.. and when I came out there were two old German ladies sitting the car and the rest taking pics like crazy, they saw me walking towards them and started talking to me with these big grins an their faces I could barely understand them but I could... I think a few more sat in the car and I had my pic taken with them and the car.. It was cool as hell and made me feel pretty cool.

But coming out of Kmart a few times and seeing people sitting in it did get a little tiresome at times.. but as long as they didn't trash anything, and no one ever did, I took it as quite a compliment..

... no-one ever sat in my Nova SS! ...Or my Corvette! Or any of my Mustangs!

Be cool with it! No rod snobs please! ( which is why I got out of srteet rods the first time, but I'm back till the end of me ..or gas.. whichever comes fiirst)

We hit the Rumblers show in Brooklyn nyc every year. They haven't messed with my buddys A and there isn't a hood on it. One guy didn't have gl*** in his ride, and no one messed with it. I suppose it depends on where you are at.

  9. No matter where you live, there is a rule that applies to all things that cost money or look nice. Namely: "If it can be ****ed with, it will be ****ed with!!!" I run a hotrod with no side panels on the hood and lots of shiny engine parts. It gets a great deal of attention wherever it goes, and in the summer months it is my daily driver. But--You never let it get out of your sight. You can't visit your friend and leave it in the street unattended. You can't take it out to drive your honey to dinner and leave it unattended in the restruant parking lot. If you have a nice hotrod and use it as your daily driver, you almost have to have a second set of wheels to use for all of those times that you have to go somewhere and leave the car unattended for more than 5 minutes.

Even with a hood on my roadster some a------e turned my gas regulator to off. I got out of the fairgrounds hit the freeway and ran out of gas with a full tank showing, took a while to figure it out but when I did I saw they also took my trick air cleaner nut . how does that happen when you're at an event with 8 to 10 thousand people walking around your car?...

People are always opening the doors and climbing on the running boards of my model A. I make it a habit to always lock the doors now. I've found my hood unlatched several times & valve stem caps missing. One year at the Woodward cruise, I had my tonneau cover off, I had parked, came back later and found empty cans and trash in the bed (which has a nice mahogony floor in it).

Gadgets won't stop most attempts to vandalize. If somebody is going to mess with it, a hood won't help, will only direct their attention to other means, slashing tires or keying paint.

In my town it's unusual for anybody to mess with other peoples stuff. Local policy is just to get even. I park out all the time, at all kinds of places, to eat out or shop.

In a bad neighborhood, my life is in as much peril as my hot rod.

Paranoid about somebody messing with it? If I was, I'd take up a different hobby. Life's too short to sweat the small ****.

You can sit in my Truck or Hot Rod. Your kid can sit and honk the horn. Your dog can ride in the back. Nothing that hasn't happened to it in 75 years already can't hurt it, and dirty footprints on the carpet and normal wear and tear add (patina?). The imron on the truck is almost 5 years old and the only scratches are ones I've put there. People 'touch' it and sit in it and that don't hurt a thing.

It hasn't happened to me yet, it might, but I refuse to let what someone else MIGHT do keep me from the joy of driving my car whenever i can. If it gets messed with I'll fix it. It would **** but I can either not worry about it or not drive the car. I choose to drive it and enjoy it.

  15. Looked in the local newspaper a few days after the local cruise and saw a picture of the city mayer sitting in my coupe!

We drive our cars every where and never had a problem, even leave them in walmarts parking lot, always somebody looking but never a problem. The t-Bucket is really the big draw somebody always wants their picture taken setting in it, I tell them your welcome to sit on the tires, not in the car.

  17. There's no *****ge of *****s like that. I had a couple of deer try to run into my 40 Merc. One bounced of my left fender. didn't do too much damage. Thank god for curves and heavy metal.

Ain't it a ***** these days, all the things we have to do just to "keep people honest"? I hate theives, liars, and vandals. I have become "not so pleasant to be around" after **** like that happens to me. Just plain old ****s.

Someone stole the cotter pin and nut for the sttering off of my brothers T coupe last year at BTTF. The tie rod end started walking itself out of the steering arm at about 75, luckily he was able to get it off to the side of the road very very slowly.

    Not and lived! :D

Have had some ***holes try to sit in it, but most never touch it. I wouldn't want to leave it sit open for a long time in an unsavory area though. Have left it open and alone for more than 9 hours at the Turkey Run with nothing more than a few extra sets of finger prints on the hood and fenders. Wouldn't turn my back on it when feeding a meter in most cities, might not be there when I was done.

Had all the emblems pried off my '69 AMX when it was parked at the shop I was working in. At least they didn't scratch the paint.
If you give them the opportunity it will be gone. Lost the Snakes off the side of the Shelby when it was parked in the street in front of the house, last summer

The Rumblers show is not in the best of 'hoods, but far from the worst. The show attracts few non-car people and there is a prevalent air of "don't **** with us" that keeps the natives in check.

My deuce has been hoodless most of the 8 years I've been driving it daily. (Beauty of living in Florida) I haven't lost any parts yet surprisingly. I do see people stopped taking pictures of it all the time, and a lot of the time they come into my office asking about it. Bike week I get all kinds of folks stopping to look at it. Most of them are really nice, several have asked if I'd sell it!

  27. I love the "parents" at car shows who just let their kids do what ever. Climb on the car. Get grubby finger prints all over and seem to be completely oblivious. Idiots!!!

the only time i had any problem was in high school i drove my 34 which has no windows and runs a sprint car steering wheel with a quick release hub. i parked, went to cl*** and my friend came to cl***; late laughing his *** off holding my wheel.hahah good times

  29. Sometimes it gets funny.

Every now and then I see some Studebaker guy accusing others of stealing chrome trim off his car at car shows.

Months later another writes that he found some trim missing and some screws laying on his carpet.

Another says the fresh trim on his car had been replaced by pitted chrome, but he couldn't catch the guy...

One friend of mine had a swap meet space. He helped one "customer" even load some stuff in his trunk. After my friend helped him load the trunk, the guy slammed the trunk lid and drove off. No pay... over $600 down the drain

I guess this means that some Stude meets are risky places to bring a car.
It does make entertaining reading tho.
