Bomber/Sports car Buckets, input wanted

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tman, Aug 27, 2004.

  1. He kids, I am just getting started fabbing a set of little buckets for my T. I am leaning towards the English sports car style. I happen to have patterns cut but before I commit them to metal I wanted to ask if anyone had any input? Things such as sizes? Fit? Tips? Tricks?

I have the article Covering the seats that Kerry from Limeworks did in the June 03 Street Rodder for reference.

So thats it, anyone have input? I will shoot tech pics as I build them.

Sorry, don't have any tips but I'm looking forward to seeing your build up. [IMG] Early Porsche 356 seats are pretty cool, saw some last weekend in a 58. Real low, small, and very little padding. Shoulda took pics. [IMG]

I have some freshly upholstered Fiat 850 Spider low back buckets in Black Tuck 'n roll.

    Interested?

If you are, I'll post a pic and a price...

Allright, I'll try and do that tomorrow.
But Tman has the first choice because he started this thread...
I will take some measurements too, to make sure they will fit.

    Tman,
Heres a pic of seats in my "other car". They are gl*** with a removable plywood bottom. They could be s***ched anyway you would want.

  10. I think you are on to something with this styling. There are some gl*** ones out there I think. I did not realize the Cobra guys may have these but the Gibbon car that has been on Ebay had some cool prototype ones. Think I still have a link to the photos. PM if you want the link.

Anything vintage porsche is going to be maaaad $$ - that's if you can find them! If you can face dealing with volkswagen people [IMG] meyers manx beach buggies do a good fibregl*** seat on the cheap, in fact i was considering them for the ****ter (being lightweight and all) and bernardnewbury.com does a wicked empi/speedwell low back bucket.. not cheap, but looooovely!

They are both unfortunately in the uk - but i know Newbury would ship to the US, and i'm pretty sure Meyers Manx buggies would too. Good luck!

  17. The hell with buying them!!!!! I am going to FAB some, you know, what the HAMB is about!? I will do***ent it for future reference, really is a simple project. I talked to Kerry from Limeworks today and got his take on it, I have a few twists on mine. Hopefully I can post pics at teh end of the weekend.

Tman, Here's mine. 58-60 Bugeye Sprite. They fold forward. Just used the frames. Boat canvas material.Simple!

  22. Cool, thanks guys, this is where I am at tonight. Camera angle and resizing ****ed up the pic.

  23. I hemmed the edges and made the connecting flange on the kicker/shrinker. They are resistance welded together withh a few MIG beads at key stress areas. I bent the back on a post buck (lightpost outside [IMG]). After I tweak the back where it is totally symmetrical, I will roll 3 or 4 horizontal beads in the back.

Fatlucky, thanks for your help on the phone tomight, I rolled a countersunk flange on the base so the mounting screw wouldnt **** with the wood seat bottm.

The Bottom will get 1/2"? plywood and med density foam that velcros or snaps on the seat pan..

I think after seeing Fatluckys work the past couple years I will have him do the stiching! [IMG] Sean, you have room to take em back home at Xmas time?

  24. BTTT for Fatlucky, Take a look Sean, I will call ya to talk about the work.

  25. Here they are done, I have a little grinding to do yet, and will blast them before a coat of primer/sealer. They fit the 27 like I meant them to [IMG]

Lookin' good! Did you ever figure out the motor trouble? I want to go for a ride when I come up there.

  29. Sean, even if there is 10" of snow on the ground we will go for a spin!!!!!!

Motor is at the machinist, he had to line hone it. I SHOULD be putting it together by next weekend.

I like what you did to Scarrylarrys seats, I think I will let you have free reign as long as it is not Iron Crosses!
