I'm in the middle of restoring a Zenith HP5A carburetor and both the high speed and compensator jets are frozen tight. I've soaked them with Kroil oil without much success. Is there a better penetrating oil out there? Thanks

I've had good luck with Marvel Mystery Oil and a lot of "old timers" say plain old diesel fuel works pretty good. A couple of them told me a 50/50 mix of Marvel Mystery Oil and Kerosene will loosen just about anything.

In a case like yours I wonder if a trip through a sonic cleaner would work to free it up?

Penetrating oil alone is most likely not enough.........try tapping the jets with a hammer (gently)........soak some more, tap some more, repeat.........I got all 4 brake bleeders and some flare nuts loose without damaging anything on my '64 Tempest using this method...........and this is all original shit on the car.........btw.............I used PB Blaster but many seem to think Kroil is better...............I bought Kroil but didn't need to use it............

PB Blaster is similar to Kroil, some say it's better. In a recent test(forget where to find it right now) the 2 top finishers were Kroil and a mixture of ATF and acetone. One old mechanic I knew swore by #1 oil - sort of like kerosene but thinner, very hard to even keep if from leaking out of gaskets and pipes, he used it for penetrating oil.

Try boiling the body in water on a stove, expansion might free up the jets.

BG has an AMAZING product, if you can find it. I usually flag down the BG guy when I can find him, or go to a garage where they offer BG services, and ask them if they have a can in stock or can get you one next time he comes by.

Its called "BG In-Force" and it shoots out of the can and foams on the area you apply it. I think this helps it creep into the threads, etc.

Anyway, I always keep a can in my box, and only use it when nothing else will work, or I know something is REALLY stuck. It has never let me down. Even seen it free up several old flatheads that were stuck for YEARS.

    Kinda pricey, but works well.

I use PB Blaster because it's cheap and I can get it less than 2 miles from my house when I run out. I'm a fan of the hot wrench technique on suspension components but wouldn't want to try anything like that on a carburetor. Good luck, get back to us

I have never used Kroil but from personal experience I feel Rubachem's Loosey Goosey works better than even PB B'laster and I used to swear by PB. Its expensive and not quite as pleasent as WD-40 but it won't melt your lungs like PB will.

The best I have ever used is "mouse milk." Cessna Aircraft Co recomends it to lube the wastegate shaft/linkage on their 402C turbocharger. It's the only oil that won't "coke up" and stick from the extreme heat. Think I'm joking? Just google "mouse milk." Pretty pricy too.

I used to work for Volvo (car line). They sell a penatrating oil with the volvo name on it. It is about $8 a can last time I bought it. Spray it on walk away....about 30 minutes later it comes right off.
I had a rotted exhaust fastener......You know the kind that is a ball of rust that no socket fits.....I had no torch , so I sprayed this stuff on and walked away. I believe it may have been the next day I started on it again and I litteraly used a chennel lock plier and the nut unscrewed right off the stud! All that and with little effort. The stuff seems to quickly generate some heat when you start removing the fastener.......Not alot of heat but obvious some catalyst action.
By far the best I have used!

Can you heat cycle the container it's soaking in? Like set it in the sun all day in a heated building, then outside into a snow bank for an hour and repeat a few times?
