I am looking for someone locally to replace a rear main seal on a 216. The motor is in a 50 chev and runs great. If I had a lift and the time I would attemp it myself. I have the new graphite seals and pan gasket. Just need someone who has done these to take care of it. The car has been sitting in Huntington Beach at this guys shop for over a month now with promises of doing. I have grown impatient at this point. This is my 15 year old son's car and he is eager to get it back on the road as he his anxious to practice his cruising skills before he gets his license. Thanks, Paul
No rear main seal on a 216, only a slinger. There's one (or was it two?) return holes for the oil to flow back to from the slinger. If they get plugged, you'll have a bad leak.
Try taking your car to Auto Tek at 1670 North Gl***ell (at Taft), in Orange. The owner is Tom. The number is (714) 685-0801. They do good work and are honest. They work mainly on old HAMB type vehicles.
1937, '38 & 39 had no rear main seal. Just a slinger on a 2 bolt main cap. 1940 & up had a seal & a 4 bolt cap.
Ooops! The only 216's I've worked on were 37's & 39's. I thought ALL 216's only had a slinger. Sorry 'bout that.....
