    nelson ,
i started a "car club" at 16 . 3 of us , but we did have cars . if you start a club with no cars , its more of a street gang . your 19 & have alot of time to try this out . maybe join one to see what its about . its not just owning cars , there is alot to it . when we started our 2nd club , it was more serious , we were a little older . there were maybe 15 of us then . we were drag racers . we had a "club car" that we all worked on & drove . there also is the "liability" question . so we "incorporated" the club to keep an individual from responsibity . to ask about a car club here was probably an eye opener for you ! if you & friends want to do something on that order , just do it ! it doesnt take "jackets" , "plaques" , etc to be an organazation . it takes friends that want to help each other to a common goal . good luck .. steve

Be ready for drama and bullshit. Its not easy, and furthermore you need to decide what is the reason to have a club. what are you trying to accomplish?? Once you figure that out then stick to it, and do your best to uphold it.

Chimmin in again. My car club is the KutThroats out of So. Cal. This year is our 10 yr. anniversary and let me tell you it has been a struggle, the club has disbanded a few times before I met the right guys, but most importantly it is about my attitude towards my club that has changed for the better. I stopped trying to run the club and let the club run its self. No more politics and no more power struggles. The drama always comes from women and power struggles, cut them out of the equation and you'll be just fine.

As far as having a finished car, the question is are they ever really finished, and who the hell is some dude who lives several states away from you telling you how to run your club. I'll tell you this, it's A LOT easier to build cars when you have buddies that are dedicated to your club helping you source parts and turn wrenches. Get after it cat, cuz time is a wasting!!

I love being the president of the Kreatures here in Austin. The only drawback to a club is that some other clubs try to pretend they are the "Jets and the Sharks". Some clubs in your area WILL try to be tough guys and WILL be juvenile jack wads that want to rumble all the time. We have a club not far from here that thinks they're a fight club, not a car club. Maybe all of the members don't feel that way, but they don't put a stop to the idiots that DO act that way. My old man was in a car club back in the 50s and 60s. He said that back then, pretty much all the clubs got along. There were no fights and no childish bullshit. Just guys hanging out and drinking beers and wrenching. They'd have build days between the clubs. I guess some of the "clubs" today just can't grow up and get along. It's "cooler" to be a hard ass.

Just remember, your club jacket will get attention, good and bad. The best bet is to just keep on keepin' on. Build your cars, hang with your club buddies and ignore the douche bags that think they're tough. They've watched West Side Story too many times. Go easy on the rules, too. Our number one rule is "Don't be a douche bag". Anyone caught being a belligerent ass hole is kicked out for keeps. No second chances. That even includes me, and I started the club. Other than that, keep the rules to a minimum. You'll have more fun. Good luck and happy rodding.

Good car clubs don't get started, they just happen.
