Hi, has anyone here ever had a set of motor mounts "re-vulcanized". There is a shop by me that offers this servce. I'm wondering about the strength of this process, will they tear apart in a few years? My engine wont put out crazy HP so I'm thinking it might be a good option.
What exactly are you thinking revulcanizing is? If it is using the old rubber on your existing mounts that is absurd. If it is vulcanizing new rubbers to your existring steel pieces it is, or should be, just as good as an original mount when new. AND, of course, they will tear apart in a few years or 8 years or whatever. That's what motor mounts do. They wear out, then you replace them again. There are no free rides.
Yeah it is with new rubber. I probably should have asked if it was just as good as/ or better than finding a set of NOS mounts. I know that they are supoosed to break down over time.
I know Steele Rubber Products does this... http://www.steelerubber.com/ "If you require Revulcanization service... Be sure to include your vehicles make, year, and body style. These parts are designed for antique and classic vehicles for use as specifed by the original manufacturer. Shipping is at your risk. We will not accept liablity for the cost of replacing original metal cores for revulcanization which are lost in shipping coming to us. Unless prior arrangements are made for extra insurance (under terms acceptable to the carrier), we insure strictly for our services on the return shipment."
Assuming they use better material than stock (very likely) and have a proven and stable process, the "rebuilt" parts should be better than your originals. I had a factory harmonic balancer rebuilt (same process as your mounts) and it is far superior to the original.
Thanks for the info guys. Figure I'll give it a shot, the place is on my way to work so it can't get much easier than that. I'll post some before and afters. Only because the front mount is pretty mangled, and in case anyone else has the same question.
