I know that hotrodding and surfing have a long common history, and you would think that neither one is a winter-friendly hobby...but check out these guys hitting the Lake Superior beaches (in January and February) in Minnesota!

I'm a landlocked surfer and I really want to get out there with those guys. I'd put up with the cold to be able to drop in on a wave. If I lived closer I'd be out there whenever there was enough swell.

Looks tempting with those clean little waves. I'd have to get one of those fancy new wetsuits with a heater in them. Talk about shrinkage!:eek:

I surfed this morning in 52 degree water and that's freakin cold enough for me, guess I was spoiled living in Hawaii.

You must be somewhere warm. Jersey's not bad if you don't mind surfing in the winter during storms with a full wet or dry suit on. Last time I surfed was a little over 20 years ago right after a hurricane. Almost drowned because I was a relative newbie to surfing and had no right being out there. Kinda rough being a surfer in NJ. Summer waves **** but in the winter they can be good.

    That's insane!!!

Seriously....I'm from CA and used to complain about the cold with a 4mm full suit on in the summer, 58-60 degree water temp...
It's colder than cold here....those guys are nuts!!!

Yeah - there's a great little indie film called "Unsalted" making the film festival rounds these days. All about surfing the Great Lakes. Pure insanity.

Here in Minnesota the winter water temp on the north shore of lake Superior is between 32 and 35 degrees. Air temp averages 20 degrees this time of year.

Surfed 49 degrees water here in Wilmington, NC over the weekend, but it was sunny and in the 60's. Surfed Leo Carrillo, above Malibu a couple of weeks ago, mid 50's water, 50's air temp, barrel though...
