This is an interesting question...depending on who's doing the asking I call it The Flying Monkey my old car the hotrod the '51 Ford the '51 that junk pile, POS, etc my Ford And the other funny thing people ask is what kind of '51 Ford...so I'll tell them it's a two door sedan and get more head scratching...I guess they want me to say it's a '51 "Fairlane" or something like that...maybe I will from now on! That's kinda messed up though I think I'll just say its the one with the bullet in the center of the grille, even though it's not...that's probably the easiest way for them to understand the body style
I seem to find myself giving American history lessons as most folks don't have a freakin' clue what it is! "Is it a custom Merc?" "Kinda looks like a Hudson." "What was it before you customized it?" Etcetera....
I*****ing like you farm custom... alot. I simply call mine the Merc Truck, I'd say it's a mild custom.
Mine's a sedan delivery... makes it hard to describe to people who don't know what they are. I say like a hearse, but shorter, or a station wagon with no windows... or a panel truck, but not a truck... a car. doesn't happen much though. I dont go around bragging about my car.
Late 50's appearance hotrod; 27 T RPU with the large majority of it's parts fabricated and/or custom made. 3 pedals on the floor, 3 carbs on the mill, top loader style*******,no fenders, no top, a little chrome and absolutely NO billet or catalog "shinies" on it! Oh yeah, original 50 Merc rims too!
I call mine "old car" to people that haven't seen it, "The Chevy" to my family and "The Hot Rod" to my 4 year old son. Tony
. The term Rat rod is oh so popular today, but I prefer to refer to my rides as "Rust Rods" Whats the difference? One requires a tetnus shot, and the other one for rabies..... Check out "rust belt runners" social group.
I don't like it when the UPS man says it looks like "one of those Rat Rods" I call it a Hot Rod. I don't want a Rat rod... Just cuz it ain't finished, don't mean it's a Rat. It will be Hot Rod Red one day, when I'm drive'n it...
Hot rod, drag car, traditional.......I HATE rat rod, its friggin' horrible...and I can't stand it when someone calls my car a sleeper just because its primer and apparently "crappy looking", completely disregarding that its obviously an old competition car...but anyway -Dean
My friend calls my 38 a Street Rod. While I don't know what to call it, I wouldn't consider it a Street Rod.
My 54F100 is now called a big pile of money and time spent, but by August 1st it will be call a nice early 60's custom. The 62 Falcon is now called a project car and someday will be called a Fast Falcon.
When people call mine a "rat" I tell them it's not a Rat, "just an ole' driver" or "a rollin' project"
I'd call that******in' I call mine my kemp,or my Kustom, depending who I'm talking to. If you have to explain, they wouldn't understand. A cliche' maybe, but true never the less Paul
