I have an early style sbc chevy intake with the oil fill tube. I beleive it is the style for the carter catburetor. I am trying to put a Holley on it but the holley is about half an ich wider then the base for the carb on the intake. What i am wondering is there an adapter out there that would bolt to the intake then let me bolt the carb on top? My intake has the four small holes where the carb mounts, my carbueretor is a holley model number is 1850-2, it is a 4160 style carb. Is it possible to mount this on my intake if so what do i need? At school rite now but this is in my mind i will put pictures when i get home if needed to clarify things.

You need an adapter plate, Holley part# 17-6. Here is the link to what you need from Holley. Good luck on the build.

Well i tried two different carb adapters from autozone and they didnt work. Here is what i have and what i bought. I also bought a Mr. Gasket adapter but it didnt work either so i didnt bother taking pictures of it. I want to know of an adapter that will surely work on my intake before i order one online. Here are pictures.

You have exactly the same stock intake I have on my early SBC. I simply put a Trans-Adapt #2064 adapter under the Holley and it worked and sealed perfectly. I believe you can get them from Eric at Riley Automotive and he is an Alliance vendor.

Alot of locals in the area respect me and help me out any way they can because they say the young generation like me is different ive even been told im like a rebirth from back in the day ahaha. But i think that adapter mite work can get it off summitracing.com for just under 20. What did you pay for it ****ster27?

The early 4 bl intakes used the Carter carb. The adaptor mounts a Holly to the small bolt pattern carb regardless of it being GM, Chrysler, ect. Offy has/had one that would squeeze down to the small bore holes usually found on these intakes, most intake bore holes can be opened up to match the size of the newer carb. Or you can open up the bore holes & drop an Edelbrock on it.

if i were to open up the holes it would have a bigger gap then. rite? wouldnt that just create more problems?
