I'm in the middle of purchasing a car from Mississippi and i need it shipped to California. I need the hauler to be enclosed. Do you guys know of a company you have used and trust. I have already got a couple of quotes for over a grand. So far they have been pretty expensive. Thanks for your reply-:)

I've had 6 cars shipped by Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS) from the west coast to the east coast. I'd use them again.

Blue Highways in Knoxville Iowa is good. I've used them 2 or 3 times with good results.

call Browns auto Transport. Ask for Jackie(no one else!!!), tell her you were refferred by Chad in Florida and she will hook you up! I use them about every 2 months or so. Ive had cars shipped from all over including overseas. YOUR WELCOME!!!!!

If you are looking to have careful transport done - a broker is not the way to go
You will pay a credit card deposit up front & get a rate that sounds too good to be true
Then your load will be farmed out - usually to the lowest bidder
That is how brokers make money ;)
Your car will most likely be loaded & unloaded - transferred - stored at various locations - before it reaches you :(
Your BEST bet is to have your car transported by the same person on the same trailer
Support a HAMB member if you can - you will know who you are dealing with at all times :)

That's a 2K mile pull and you want enclosed. I don't pull enclosed, but I'd say it would run at least $1500.

Absolutely. If not, check Hemming's -lots of long term haulers in there and Hemming's often lists how long they've been advertising.

Whatever you do, do NOT use reliable. they tied my buddies 60 ford down by the frame till it was on the snubbers and destroyed the car.

I have used www.Uship.com several times with great success. Latest is for non running, non steering 1940s car for $1600 from WV to So Cal - enclosed. I doubt if you'll find it for much less enclosed. Reckon on $300-$400 additional over open hauler price for enclosed.

  11. The less you pay, the more likely it will take a long time and the car will arrive damaged or missing pieces. Bear that in mind -

Thanks to you all. This has been great info. I Think i would be using a open hauler not enclosed. I am looking for a one guy only. Again many thanks :)

  17. You should be very happy if the charges are only a grand. Seems a bit low to me.

  18. Browns' Auto Transport is reviewed here:

$1000 does indeed seem too low for a 2000 mile trip
But as has already been pointed out here by another HAMBer ...
You get what you pay for
    :)

DAS moves the car around too much. They will pick it up and move it to a staging area until they have a complete load going in one direction. I used Charles Monday transport which was an enclosed transport with a lift gate and it was a family owned business. A car from Kentucky to Cali was $1500. Like other people have stated, stay away from brokers. I just went yesterday with a friend to pick up a car that he had bought from N.Y. The transport driver could barely speak English. If we hadn't have been there he couldn't have gotten the car unloaded. He had to drive them off and on and didn't even know where 1st gear was on a column shift 3 speed. Obviously he was the cheapest and it definately showed. A perfect example of "you get what you pay for".

Another vote for Horseless Carriage. I have used them many times. Ferraris and other exotics, some worth up to a million or so. Absolutely rock solid service!!

Too true! I shipped with DAS basically from sea to shining sea for around $1200. The car arrived missing parts *and* damaged. They hooked the suspension/exhaust moving the car around somewhere along the line.

And yes, they did the staging area thing.
