Three "rare" intakes for a new 59AB motor!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Coupe-De-CAB, Feb 9, 2009.

  1. Looks to me like the Eddie Meyer would work the best, it's got the straightest shot! Eddie was always on top of the game.

The last Edelbrock I saw that was restored minus carbs sold for over 2k on that site. Kinda pricey for my blood. It's too bad that Meyer had the gen. mount welded up, it kinda ruins it but you could clean it up so that it may not be noticeable. IIRC in one of the flathead books the Meyer didnt perform up to the standards of it's looks. The Weiand would perform the best but if it is not a competion build and just a street build I would stick with the Meyer. Just my .02 -Drew

The Eddie Meyer has cracked and been welded near the gen bracket.

Looks like both side of the bracket are welded. The bead is pretty straight for a crack. Maybe the bracket was cut off for a race car and welded back on later.

  11. The Edelbrock will out perform any of the ones shown. If you just want far out odd-ball looks, take your pick of either of the other two.

The Eddie Myer intake is nasty!

I also like the high rise Thickstun PM7 as far as 2 x 2 intakes go.

Yea, that's the only bummer about the Eddie Meyer is the re-weld, so it's makes it hard to justify paying a high dollar price for it:( seems like it could be fixed up, but that's just more dough to spend on the intake:eek: I'm not sure if i'll even have enough to bid on any of those, it might be wishful thinking from here on out, but i do enjoy all the suggestions and opinions on all three of these beautiful intakes! so thanks ya'll for sharing your thoughts, much appreciated.

Not sure how rare they are but , I bought 2 original high rise intakes last week from a guy that had them for years. pm 7 and a Weiand I guess I'm gonna put the Thickstun on the 39 first.

All the Eddie Meyer's I've ever seen have the "Hollywood" race car and boat logo on them. I'm guessing that one like that pictured in this thread pre-dates the logo'ed manifolds. Anybody know the time frame for the change over? I have the bottom to an Eddie Meyer manifold like that pictured with a logo and the oil breather/fuel pump stand base is about an inch taller. Interesting subtle differences.

I see that the EM went for $1200. It went for more than the Edelbrock.

well, unfortunately my paypal account didn't have enough funds to cover any of these intakes, but as the auctions ended, this is how they ended up-

    Eddie Meyer sold for $1,200.00

    Weiand sold for $769.00

Edelbrock ( slingshot) didn't sell and make their reserve at $803.00

Hopefully when others pop up in the near future, i'll have the buyer power to play:)
thanks again for all you posts, opinions and insight. I dug all the Flathead w/ high-rise intake pics as well!
    Cheers,

I would imagine that Edelbrock's reissue of this intake will seriously alter the market for the originals. Certain die hards will still pay the price for the ancient ones, but a new slingshot, complete with warantee, is hard to turn down too.
