    hye! i have a 305ci in my 79' caprice but it's stock!
i would like more power but not a drag engine, when i make a race i would like to approach 13s/1/4 mile, for a cruiser it's great here!
in france we have dragster but not a great experience for the modification of this engine.
more drag have 500/700hp but make a run in 12/11s....with nitrous!
i see more cars in the usa but he run in 10s/9.5s!!!
    we have a several problem!!!!
what can i do for make a good cruiser with this engine, i would like a good fiability, more power, but not a brutal engine.
and for the transmission what can i do to change or midify?
    what is the first step?
i have too a 327ci with camel hunt, but it's for a future rod.
i'm coming here to learn more technical advice because in my country, we talk, we talk but it's not very effective!
my favorite hobby is the bodywork but it's for soon;)
    thanks

simple bolt ons will wake up your motor. Get a dual plane alum intake, decent 600 cfm carb, and throw a set of headers on. A better cam will help also. As for the ******, a shift kit makes for a more performance feel, with crisp shifts and the occasional tire chirp. Maybe just build up that 327 and run it. You can always pull it later for your upcoming project.

What he means is that it will shift very fast with a shift kit.

"crisp shift" means like a car with a manual transmission, when you shift gears fast and hard with lots of RPM's. It will shift "hard" like a manual, not soft like an automatic. It's more fun... Like this, [IMG]

Some advice for you. On the HAMB, we talk about old cars, built before 1964. I understand the language barrier, but it might make someone mad if you are not carefull... Dont talk about a 1979 Caprice... But it's ok to talk about a 305 chevy.

Here is some old car inspiration for you: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=331800

Basic bolt-on parts will work wonders for a 305 Chevy. The more power you make, the less practical it will be after a certain point though. A good aluminum dual plane intake helps a lot (such as the Edelbrock Performer) and a good carb to go with it (600 Holley or Edelbrock, for example). Headers for your particular ch***is might be hard to find in France, but a good 2 1/2" exhaust system will do you some good.

Cam choice for a 305 can be hard. You don't want to go too big with a small motor in a big car. Ask me how I know that one. 282/282 grind in a 305 is not a good choice! I would have made more power by going smaller (272/282) or bigger (282/292), but the smaller one would have more low end torque - right where you need it for a cruiser.

I'll also echo the comments on the shift kit! You might even want to start with the shift kit.

    Good luck!

Bon jour, Probably the biggest concideration, after the above mentioned engine/trans modifications, is a gear change. In fact, it may be of more benefit the the other things mentioned. That's a fairly large vehicle, with a fairly small engine; it'll need all the help it can to get it moving, but I don't think it'll ever make it into the 13's normally aspirated. Adieu. Camshaft is a lot of labor, but otherwise cheapest power in the engine.

Lift at the valve with 1.5 rockers. Cruiser = .420 Racy cruiser = .440

    Duration @ .050. Cruiser = under 210 Racy cruiser = over 210, do not exceed 220.

    Good luck with the project.

i also think a rear gear like 373 or 411 will help it out in 1/4 mile
