I have a 61 ford truck and its a mild pro street and my bed floor was trashed so Im looking for ideas from others. I run 15" wide rear tires so my tubs have to be a good size. I really want to run a wood floor and also raise the floor. Just thought between everybody we could come up with a cool set up. Any pictures would be a plus. Any ideas will be appreciated.
I'm having the same problem. I've subscribed to this thread so I can read all the ideas that are going to be posted from guys smarter than me!
Nothing looks better than a wood floor, but nothing rots more either. If it was mine I would cut the floor out of a modern truck. Trim to fit, and has a good look with the stamping. Just carry a portable cutting torch to the junk yard and ask which bed floor you can cut. Cheap and easy. Cut a long bed floor, you might need some extra somewhere.
I would use 73-80 chevy fender wells and a wood floor. You may have to widen them but it would be a clean look and still keep the wood floor,
There's a ton of places selling repro bed wood and rails for Ford trucks! Might take a bit of sheetmetal fab to fill in the edges, but all of the parts are available. Make the "tubs" look like stock wheelwells too. Pro Street died a long time ago. Tim D.
The problem I have is I need to lift the whole box about a foot to change the tires. I bought the truck as a basket case and the guy that started it hogged out HUGE weel wells on the inside of the box. Looks like he did it with a cold chisle and 6 beer.
I was going to suggest removing the shackle bolts to lower the rear end so you could remove the tire. I looked at the picture again... and don't see any shackles. There are some, right? I'm just blind huh? Craig I am blind..now I see them.... never mind
Hinge the bed and flip it to the back to change the tire? Think dump truck. No need for mini-trucker hydros or anything like that. But, I bet the mini guys would have some ideas on how to do that pretty easily. Why is it a problem related to the bed floor? Tim D.
I tried to do it by un-bolting the shackles. Won't drop far enough. Brake lines, wires, blah blah. I really like the idea of putting a hinge system on it. I think that just might work. I'm heading out to the shop right now to check it out..................
I'm looking at doing this. It's a bed cover that's removable. Using the truck post holes (or whatever you call them). Probably not great for this project.
We used 1x1 square stock and made up the frame work then took some rough cut aged lumber and made the floor.. Its raised about 7 inches..
Put a factory uncut bed on it, radius the fenders, slap on some cheater slicks, raise the frontend to the sky, add big block....... all better now.
SaxonHous, Great Photoshop! This s a great idea, I like it! Now to make it usable I could put a few hinged access doors in the raised bed. Have built in sealed boxes, kinda like a trunk? That's why I like this site. Great ideas and colaberation!
hi! that `64 chevy wasn`t a pro street only 285/70 15, but i`ve done a raised bed and some new bigger wheeltubs , so watch out, maybe that give you some ideas..
Thanks Chopped, so the night's I spend drinkin' a few beers and staring at my truck are kinda worth it I thought about boxing the front too and having it swing open for extra stuff.
