Anyone Bag their own Mopar? I have a 54 Imperial with a 331 Hemi/Powerflite and am weighing the pro's and cons of lowering it down low and dirty with bags or dropped spindles and leaf spring blocks. Dropped spindles and blocks through FatMan which require disk brakes - around $1000. Air Bag Kits I guess are around $1500 - $2000 and a lot of work, but cool. Any help would sure be welcome!
Well, 54 Imperials are not the usual hot rod start. There have been some recent discussions about the Mopar/bags subject, try a search. .
Well thats precisley the point! To be a little different. Plus, I got it cheap. A little rusty though. Good hemi. What kinda hemi stuff can you sell me?
Check this thread, similar concept: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=331491&highlight=bags As for parts, we can provide a thermostat gasket or a turnkey engine. Start your shopping list. .
Dare to be different !!! (like me) I support you, though I have no idea how to bag cars. Can`t understand how underrated Imperials are in the States... Only good for robbing hemis from them I`ve noticed... (No one to be offended, just my opinion)
Sorry, but I was mislead by your title "Baggin an early Mopar". I thought I was on to something good until I saw that you were talking about a 1954 Imperial. While quite the impressive car and certainly a Mopar, hardly what I would call "Early".
putting bags on the front end is really easy, you could practically do it on your lunch break! the rear however... that will require notching or stepping of the frame to be low.
I have found a few people that have bagged a 54 dodge but not th imperial, good luck and keep up the being differant part. How differant is that suspension than the Savoy and the Plaza.
I think they are very sinilar suspensions though the Imperial is more Beefy due to weight differences. Also since I will keep the electrical system 6 volts for now I don't think I can power a Bag system compressor. They are all 12 volt and require Mucho big amps.
Thats a good idea. Maybe down low, one of those tiny Jap units. Nippondenso I think. I also thought of mounting a small mechanical compressor down low too and run the air lines to the trunk. This would eliminate the electrical issue. Anyone do the mechanical compressor thing?
