Hey Guys, I am trying to find the best way of getting this flat color for my 1965 c10 long bed. I have done a couple hours of research looking through posts. I first thought it was going to be a kinda ez find, hot rod flatz Daytona Blue Pearl. But after reading some feedback and seeing the final paint, it looks a lil dull. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=177497&highlight=daytona+blue&page=2 don't take any offence hvychvy your ride looks great. I am going for the same scheme, clear white on top and inside. Satin Dark blue on the bottom. Can someone give me a lil push in the right direction with what the best way to get this color? Thanks!!
Here's a start. The color look pretty close to a color Honda used in the past. I am sure you could ad flatening agent to it to get the results you need. Honda called it "Electron Blue Pearl"
Search for Clarks truck and Hot Rod Man 2000's T coupe. They are both dark blue and possibly a pearl base coat with PPG flex and flat clear. Gives it kind of a glow!
Our old 50 Ford was painted dark satin blue 05 vw indigo blue base with ppg flexed n flat clear. It looked pretty cool outside had a nice sheen to it.
This would be funny.... IF you knew how to spell Satin is a paint finish or a fabric. Satan is the one in hell where he belongs.
I love satin just not flat, egg shell satin is about the best description I've heard for my preference.
Maybe a little lighter than what you're after, but on my OT VolksRodster I built a while back, I used a Hyundai metallic base. Shot a couple coats of 2K clear, then added flattener to the final coat only. (too thick and it tends to be milky apparently). IF I were to do it again it used less flattener to make it satin more rather than almost matt. It did pop nicely in the sun though. PITA to spray without tiger stripes - I ended up just misting over the top in random swirling patterns with a bit more gun distance as I finished up each panel. PITA to keep looking good too - rub too hard when washing and it gets a little more shiny in that spot. I'll be painting my cars glossy in future
Call southern polyurethanes, SPI, use their clear and get their recommendation for satin. These guys have a lot of support on this board. The base you can choose whatever color you want, more pearl will give it the "glow" you're after
Whoops, hopefully painted by now. I never looked at the posting dates, just seen it at the top of the leaderboard and gave my 2 cents for what that's worth.
