I've got a pretty much eternal Craigslist posting here in Dallas, the content changes, but there is always one, lately I've been thinning out my projects and my parts selling amongst others a couple of 8BA flathead blocks.

Last Saturday someone responds to my posting, the whole content of the email "I've got two Ford flatheads sitting in cars that I need to get rid of, I've tried selling them for months but no-one wants them. Would you be interested in buying them? and how much would you pay me for them?"

So my standard response, "yes, I'll buy them, if they are flathead 8 cylinders, they are complete and they are not stuck then I'll pay $500 for the two engines. Please send pictures."

His response "Well I need to get a little more for them and you would have to take the whole cars, not just the engines. I can't send pictures, please call me"

So I call him, and he mentioned that these "ford" engines are in 1946 Lincolns.. now I'm really interested. He is about 45 minute drive from my house, so the wife and I get in the truck and we drive out there on Sunday afternoon.. and yes.. 2 1946 Lincoln 4 doors, pretty much complete, but taken apart, no wheels, sitting on the sand in the back of the yard, clean 1956 titles and 2 complete free turning Lincoln flathead V12 engines both with 3 speed + overdrive transmissions.

So I asked him how much and agreed to pay his price.. and I picked one up today, the other one is waiting for me to pick up tomorrow. It was a little more then I wanted to pay, but worth it.

So I probably won't be able to make it to the Dallas Autorama, but I have a pretty good excuse.

Sold one of the engines to a fellow hamber earlier this week, helps to finance this new find.. Now I just have to find a nice body to put on the second frame to make a hotrod V12 for myself.

I didn't think they existed, didn't think any of the big car companies made cars in '46.. guess this shows I was pretty wrong.

One cool feature: the car has hydraulic windows on all 4 doors.. it's got an hydraulic pump under the hood (drivers side high up) electric switches on all doors and hydraulic cylinders to move the windows. very cool to see.

  5. Great find!! I keep seeing Want's stuff in the classifieds for Lincoln V12 Flatheads. My 48 had a Caddy in it when I bought it.

I'm noticing that people want stuff, I've received several PM's already asking for parts.. I'm probably going to part the bodies out, keep one set of suspension and engine/trans and sell the other suspension and trans.

i had a 47 coupe a couple years ago, had i studied alot of customs back then, and known the people i know now, i would have turned it into something cool.

nice find, and you can probably get some good cash parting them out, those lincoln parts are quite rare

    His "selling" on Craigslist:

"two old lincolns, rusted, no wheels. Call me, I won't respond to emails"

No pictures, just a phone number.

How many responses do you think you're going to get?

  17. My late brother owned one of these many years ago.
In New Zealand they are definitely rare..
    His also had hydraulic windows.
And a dipstick that floats and you can read the oil level
without pulling it out... Cool cars...
    I have a '49 Lincoln coupe.
    Love all Lincolns.............

This probably belongs in the classified section, I'm getting lot's and lot's of PM's from people that want to buy parts after they read this thread and I want to save them the disappointment and effort.

For now I'm planning to part out one of the bodies and probably one set of suspension (too many projects already).

So if you need body parts or other misc. items, send me a note.. and yes, I'll cut up the body for panels.

What I'm NOT selling for now.. the 2nd V12/tranny combo, the good dash complete dash, the good steering wheel. I've got another complete dash with a broken speedo and a rough steering wheel that I'll sell you.. but not the ones pictured in my original post.

The dash/wheel that I'll sell are in the pictures here:

That one peeling bit touching the ground is possibly the biggest single chunk of peeled chrome I've ever seen. They definitely do not make chrome like that anymore.

    Great score

the best part of this are the internals for the trans. L/Z gears. IIRC they are the 25 tooth cluster. 45 mph in low gear.
