Hot Rods Anyone do custom fiberglass work??

I would really like to have a fibergl*** bumper made up for my Ford, a duplicate of the stock bumper but it can just be super thin and crude for all I care as long as it's light. I'll make up some aluminum brackets to replace the heavy stock ones. Anyone do this kind of work?? Thanks,

It's basically flat with a roll, so I wonder if you couldn't hammer some .032" aluminum sheet over the bumper, using it as the form. You would probably need to get the ends formed separate and welded.

 

their is a place here in indy, that does that kind of work, i can get you a # if interested

 

Wax it / lay a couple of layers of gl*** on it / spray some great stuff on the back of the mold you just made / remove mold / wax mold / lay up fibergl*** / Remove your new bumper from the mold.

It doesn't appear to have any real complicated details other than the almost dagmars at the ends.

 

I just started working on making gl*** front fenders for my 55 Buick today. If they come out all right, I'll let you know. Maybe we could do the bumper ourselves.

i think you could could do it without making a mold, just wrap it in foil and lay the gl*** on top. it looks like you will be able to pull the bumper out of the cured fibergl***. it will be very slightly bigger but who cares

 

Hello, why Couldnt you make a Mold of the Bumper from Fibregl***, make sure the out side of the Mold is rigid.. with Wood.. to prevent it from distorting .. take the mold to a Boat Manufacture or an industry that makes water slides.. and ask to see if they Would and could use the Chopper Gun and spray the gl*** into the MOLD.. its safer and cleaner.. they would be able to pre gelcoat the mold for smoothness.. with the spray factor.. you wouldnt have to deal with so many air pockets or pin holes..

DONT FORGET THE MOLD RELEASE.. almost simuliar to bees wax..
