At first glance that sure looks like a tall deck 427 or 366 engine to me. Tall decks came in dump trucks. Some racers like to use the tall deck block, but that really isn't the thing for a street car in my opinion. However, if it is a tall deck, it will have a steel crank and 4 bolt mains that will work in a car/truck 396, 402, 427 or 454 (if you wanted to make a 427 out of the 454)

  3. If the distributor was in the front then definently! BBC's are more readily available, also try to determine if it was Ocean going. Salt water sometimes plays havoc.

Weren't some of those engines named by their torque rating instead of displacement?

  5. second pic shows the distributor at the back. Follow the plug wires and you can just barely see it. I'd still grab if the price is right

  8. If it's been sitting like that for years, good chance water got into it and froze up creating lots of nasty cracks.
Buy it, but by the pound, just in case it's junk.

Looks like it has the single feed Holley carb. It's definitrly a truck motor by the water pump. Like has been said if water has gotten inside and it's been sitting out in the weather it's a boat anchor. It might be junk anyway depending on why it was pulled in the first place. These things can get REAL expensive to rebuild.

I would say that the steel crank (if in good shape) and 4 bolt main caps ought to be worth $150. The heads basically would be junk as they would have tiny valves.
